Pc wont boot unless i try to re-insert the cpu fan

Hi i got a problem with my PC, It doesn't boot, i hear no beeping sound, although the fans are moving. However everytime i remove the Cpu fan and re-inserting and switch the power on then it starts to boot and all is ok.
annoyingly it started to occur frequently, sometimes my pc boots fine but on the next boot then the problem surfaces. i really dont know whats going on ? Help is so much appreciated.

Hi Lightwind,

Well, normally you should not remove CPU fan on regular basis. But, if that is how your PC is booting then, may I know when you put the fan back do you apply the silver paste. Because it might be, that the fan does not fits properly and due to overheating of the CPU it stops the system to start.

I will suggest to apply the silver paste and fit the fan and connect all the cables properly and then try to boot it.

Are you actually "removing" the fan or disconnecting the wires?

@Sir George - Nope, there were no wires disconnected just the fan dislodging from the cpu and re-inserting it back.

@Archer - i haven't tried adding silver paste yet but i'll try your suggestion. thanks

To me that sounds like the heatsink/fan (HSF) is not properly attached...
Some HSFs can be difficult to get attached correctly...
A properly installed Heatsink or fan should not become "dislodged" and need re-inserting...

This sounds very odd to me I must say, I think something else is at play here.

What is the exact ritual you're performing when removing the fan and reseating it?
I can only imagine (and hope!) that you're disconnecting the PC from the wall?
that might be a factor.

It sounds like a memory / PSU issue to me, rather then anything else at the moment.

Did you try testing the RAM?
Download HWinfo (select the appropriate version 32bit (x86) / or 64bit)
and post a screenshot of the sensors window.

Good way to smoke a CPU. Intel processors will throttle to save themselves. AMD, not so much. They'll run until they melt. Best get a heatsink that fits and mounts correctly.

If the motherboard detects that the CPU fan is not turning (speed sensor) it may prevent a power up (post) to prevent damaging the CPU or motherboard. If it was me I'd replace the fan /heat sink assembly. New thermal past won't hurt but if the fan or speed sensor is intermittent or defective it won't help. I think I would reseat the CPU in its socket too. Don't forget to take precautions against electrostatic discharge.

I agree with the fan not turning or being detected as a possible problem. The bearings on fans do wear out, and it's also not uncommon to get a defective one. I would replace the heatsink/fan as well, just to be safe.

So far my pc survived its 5th boot (normal booting) since i posted here. But to be sure i'll try your suggestion replacing the CPU fan and i hope it solves the problem, luckily my friend here has a spare with the same model. I'll report back ifsoever the problem persist.

Hi again team,

i just replaced my old heatsink fan with another, added a small amount of silver paste and it is working well. So far PC boot went smoothly, however after awhile i encountered a BSOD. kinda weird it happened after replacing the fan and so i thought it must be just a coincident. But may you guys check what caused it?
I just want to be sure pc is running fine without any more problem. Thank you

Are you monitoring temps in the System tray with a program like Core Temp?

Check your logs to google errors at the time of crash, check the other System Resources using Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.
