So here we are again, its 2013 and Microsoft still has no official fix for corrupted Windows Installer.

I'm absolutely livid right now. I am not re-formatting again, if I can't have a working windows install 6 hours after my last reformat, after all the effort I've put in, there's no point to it anymore.

Can't install IE9/10 even through windows update (yeah, it's IE, but that's not the bloody point!), can't install my favorite game (MechWarrior: Online), I can't do anything but flip through various posts on the internet on how to fix my problem to no avail.

I've restarted/reregistered MSIserv a hundred times. I've tried setting RPC up with a local login. Every single device on my machine has up-to-date drivers, including my chipset (what a waste of effort). I've refreshed MSI's registry settings. There are no pending file operations in reg. I finished every update except IE9/10, and cleared all temporary files. I have ran sfc /scannow multiple times. I have ran repair from my recovery stick. NOTHING WORKS.

Java broke it, and we all know what a PITA Java is for installing/updating. Help me, or god <expletive> I will suffer Ubuntu/WINE's terrible FPS for the rest of my gaming life.

I'm a system builder, I know how to install Windows :p

The process I follow is more like this
Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs

They're not too terribly different, I don't slipstream and I don't install programs until she's humming perfectly (drivers, optimizations). Its worth noting, again, that everything was working perfectly until I tried installing x64 JRE7, which I tried directly after x86 JRE "finished installing." Something broke there. After doing all those steps in the OP, I decided to run JavaRa, and then manually went through all the normal Java hiding places on the drive and registry, found some missed items, ran JavaRa again. Pretty sure the exorcism was completely thorough but it didn't solve anything.

Hello trexiL,
Both of the tutorials advise creating backup images.
Have you created backup images?

It sounds like you are saying the install was "humming perfectly" until you installed Java (JRE) ...
In Post #1 you stated "Microsoft still has no official fix for corrupted Windows Installer"...

If installing JRE (Sun) causes problems, why do you think it's a Windows Installer problem?
Maybe it's a JRE problem ?
Why not create a Backup Image before installing any 3rd party software such as JRE?
Then, if any software causes you problems, you can restore the image and do a "complete exorcism".
And, not have to start over with another clean re-install...

:p

So does anybody have any ideas here?

I've also tried taking ownership of the MSI files, and moving them out of sys32 before running sfc /scannow, still no dice.

Firstly, the error code is a windows code, not a Java code. Second, does it matter? JRE broke Windows Installer. I need Windows Installer. I don't need JRE. Before 7, Microsoft supplied redistributables for this very purpose, now its baked into the OS and they provide nothing.
