Solved Win7 x64 Sp1 (have sfc log) crashes and errors after updates-malware?

What's the kb#? Open up Programs and Features, click on 'view installed updates' and tell me what failed... hopefully it will show.

I did as instructed, and it didn't show unfortunately...I was looking for a kb# as well, because the error code I got after it downloaded but failed to install was, what the hell? Ok my computer appears to be scared of you Jacee...it installed and I have to restart... The force is indeed unparalleled with you...

I am now and forever skipping anything bing related, but they are 2 optional updates along with the IE update; the bing bar and desktop...my initial thought was that not downloading/installing those were the cause of the error in IE update. I didn't download/install them yet IE update just installed.

Isn't my computer a technicians wet dream? lol

Don't bother with 'optional' updates. "Critical" updates are the most important. You can download recommended updates a few at a time, just to make sure they install and don't break anything.
(No Bing for me! )

Before I download and install any MS updates, I always[/U] clean temporary files. Use TFC for this, and reboot when it's finished cleaning.

Okie, thanks...I normally skip optional unless driver or definitions related...except for bing, because I had read somewhere that bing was necessary for other microsoft stuff to work (though I hate bing lol)...

Will definitely take the "one-at-a-time" approach from now on to make sure nothing goes wrong...and thanks for the TFC link and tip...I was browsing bleeping computer site...lots of info and downloads...

and on restart, no elevated rights message, so will work backwards to figure out what I did...any thoughts on mbam ant-exploit program as a security measure?

Yep, well at least I hope I did...I went over all of the startup via msconfig and found some old sony services, didn't delete them, but disabled them.

And I was using Alternative flash player updater, disabled that from startup and set it to manual and that seemed to help.

I made a personal log file of changes I made, but before I post it as a possible fix, want to make sure it actually works...but your suggestion was definitely what put me on track there...

the force is also strong in you...and I feel like padawan with his first light saber lol

Damn youse Bill Gates for lying to me about bing! And well, I don't have any driver updates needed I think, since this is a Toshiba laptop, I usually use the site if I'm unsure of an update offered by MS...

The funny thing is this isn't my first rodeo, and am really paranoid about security and viruses/malware...it's Santa I tell you....already drafted my strongly worded letter...******* came in whilst all was quiet throughout my office and I had left and logged on and did this.

So from now on, aside from regular scans (I have mbam set for flash scans everyday and full scans once a week, so you can tell why I was surprised at the inception of this problem), I'll use TFC once a week and eset online scan once a month...

I just want to go through this week to make sure everything is in order before citing this as "resolved" and though I wouldn't wish it on anyone, hopefully all of the advice you and Andrew offered can help someone browsing the thread (and also bow profusely before your greatness oh Gurus)

To Jacee and andrew129260....

Thank you guys sooo much...finally got all of the coal out of my xmas stocking (laptop)...ran vigorous scans and normal work stuff last week and everything seems to be pretty much fixed.

I hope this thread can help anyone else in dire straits...though please get the guidance of a Guru (both of mines are taken....grrrr) lol...

And hopefully I can help someone else in time as I stay active on the forum...learn something new everyday...:geek:

And Jacee especially, thanks for the patience and andrew, for the following up and suggestive guidance...I've actually been inspecting all aspects of my system, drivers and services mostly...it's how I managed to fix that error message. (but seeing as this is a toshiba, I'm hesitant to offer the actual fix, as it involved pre-config settings I don't think may be for all win7 users. (though look for stuff that is suspicious and ask..)

Jacee/Andrew...hope if I ever have an issue, I can PM u guys so I'll know which forum to go to and alert you that I'm back on Santa's naughty list...Wrongly!!

So with a smile (and nervous stomach because I'm scared the tech Gods may be waiting for me to do this and then mess with me) I'm marking this resolved. :D

Happy Holidays guys!

I have read through this complete thread again as I do most of Jacee's working threads.
Good job to all of you.
circumvent you were very good at following instruction and that does help.

Just a reminder circumvent.
Their is no such thing as a safe torrent or P2P.
If you use them you will have another mess.
IObit anything is just another method of creating a mess.
I'm not a expert like Jacee but I have seen over and over again the problems these things create.
Jacee likes cleaning up messes like you had and I like watching her at work.

Hopefully you will be like me and watch Jacee do her work in other threads and not need her work again.
Believe me it's more enjoyable watch the work than needing the work of our experts.

Happy computing.

Thanks Layback Bear, and yes, Jacee and Andrew really helped me out of the abyss...and I noted the torrent warning..didn't even contemplate reinstalling one...and yep, prevention is better than the cure (though Andrew and Jacee were right...I did have fun lol)...Have no idea why Iobit is touted so much, along with other system cleaners...but like G.I. Joe says (not the Rock/Tatum version), knowing is half the battle...Yo Joe!

And am now an avid fan of my Guru's Jacee and Andrew *bowing profusely (I'm not worthy)* been following their work already...

Thanks for the compliments guys...oh, just as a thought, and because I don't want to knock any company or products (or endorse), but read this article and thought that you guys, if its relevant to others on the forum (and accurate) can share it in the appropriate section...kind of asking for a proof reading :geek:

(that and after reading the rules for posting, didn't want to take it upon myself to just post a url without some kind of approval).

Adobe and Java vulnerabilities leave Windows open for exploitation | The Download Blog - CNET Download.com

It's about adobe and java.

Maybe some opinions can be generated based on the article, in the appropriate section...seeing as malware got me, I've been rss'ing (is that even a term?) my usual news feeds to include on malware.

The first thing that comes to mind; does one need Adobe Java installed. Many don't need it; like me. If you don't have a absolute need for it remove it.
If you do need it so some program works you must check for security updates at least daily.
In the last 6 months or so Adobe Java has had many attacks.
Note: Adobe Java and Adobe Script are two different things.
