Hey,

Recently my computer with an Atheros AR5009 wireless card has started dropping my IP Address but still remained connected to the router. When I mouse over the network icon, it says "No Internet Access" with a yellow triangle and then reconnects with the regular white bar icon after 10 seconds or so of computer activity. This seems to happen most when I turn off my monitor and leave the house. The power settings for the wireless card are correct and I have set my computer to not go to sleep. Can you offer any advice on how to fix this problem? It is getting kind of irritating because I run a Minecraft server on the computer and no one can connect when this happens.

Thank you,

wws

The thread in the link talks about the connection drop out problem with Atheros AR5009 and has links to various drivers that seem to work and other suggestions that may help.

Hey, thanks for that link. I apologize, I misinformed you on the model number of the wireless LAN card. It is actually an Atheros AR9281. Also, sometimes the card will not automatically renew the IP, it requires a disconnect and reconnect to get it working again.

What make model router are you using? Is security on the router set to use WPA2 personal with AES encryption?

It's a belkin n300, yes it is WPA2 with AES. It's been configured like that for few months though with no problems...

Ok please to install InSSIDer and post a screen shot of the result. This will show us the wireless landscape in your area. It will also show me which channels are overlapping which can lead to connection drop outs etc.

I actually use inSSIDer for a similar problem on a different computer of mine. Here is the report

Also, I have reset the router, but my other WiFi devices connect OK, so I don't think its a problem with the router specifically.

The inSSIDer looks ok although the link score is only 50 but it should be ok.

The signal might be cleaner on channel 1 in this case.

Can you post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all?

By the way, thefamily is my network. Also, all network devices (Atheros LAN, Virtualbox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter, Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter) are disabled except for the WiFi card.

I'm really not seeing anything that might cause an intermittent connection problem. These can be very difficult to track down and about the only way is to start up in safe mode with Networking to see if the problem persists.

Be sure and disable the power saving features in the Power Management tab. Sometimes just reseating the card can help.

If the problem goes away in safe mode then you can be sure it's caused by something installed on the system. Process of elimination is about the only way to fix this which means disabling programs until you can isolate the problem.

You might try setting the router to broadcast on N only then change the channel to channel 1 because with this weak signal you really need to make sure you have a clean channel

It could also be a problem with the card itself.
