Memory Issues

well the auto setting doesn't seem to do it and doing it manually didn't help either but no there is a specific option to set all 4.

I was about to post the same thing - I'd recommend manually setting the timings (lowest common denominator) and voltages (upper end of the makers recommended range). Ensure the command rate is 2T. There should also be a setting buried in the Bios for 'tRFC' - Sometimes it can have different names/initials: Look for "Refresh to Activate Delay" in the advanced memory settings. You want 54 or greater if you're having trouble with stability.

If that doesn't work, you may need to downclock (RAM only - through the memory divider) and try again.

After this is resolved you might want to go into your system control panel>advanced settings>advanced>startup>and change to a small dump.

I'm having a similar problem.
My problem is that a Tech said that my Motherboard doesn't support three slots of RAM at full speed (1600), and that it slows whenever 1 slot is inserted. Example : 1 Slot used 1600, 2 Slots used 1333, 3 Slots used 1066.

Is he telling the truth?

And When i say tech, i mean the guy who sold me the computer.

Hello again.

I was checking out my ram speeds on cpu-z and they looked weird to me. can any of the ram experts take a look. Keep in mind that im running the exact same modules. I'm not sure if i should've started a new thread for this so sorry to the mods in adv.

It seems that these are not the same sticks of RAM. You have two different kits: one 667MHz (ddr3 1600) and one 533MHz (ddr3 1066). I mean they're not even close in terms of the jedec timing tables.

533MHz:
JEDEC timings table CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC @ frequency
JEDEC #1 5.0-5-5-12-19 @ 380 MHz
JEDEC #2 6.0-6-6-14-23 @ 457 MHz
JEDEC #3 7.0-7-7-16-27 @ 533 MHz
JEDEC #4 8.0-8-8-19-31 @ 609 MHz

667MHz:
JEDEC timings table CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC @ frequency
JEDEC #1 5.0-5-5-15-20 @ 476 MHz
JEDEC #2 6.0-6-6-18-24 @ 571 MHz
JEDEC #3 7.0-7-7-20-28 @ 666 MHz
JEDEC #4 8.0-8-8-23-32 @ 761 MHz
JEDEC #5 9.0-9-9-26-36 @ 857 MHz

It's odd that the jedec 2 timing table does not show 533MHz settings.

Ideally, you'd like to be able to RMA the new kit and this time make sure you get one that's the same as the old kit. However, if that's not possible, what you'll need to do is run your RAM at 533MHz (1066).

Try out 7-7-7-16-25 @ 1.5 volts. Your newer kit (667MHz), at least on the OCZ website, says that these sticks run at 1.65 volts. Let's hope that by running them at the much lower speed of 533MHz that they'll play nice?

Thats what was so confusing. I ordered the same exact ram. I actually went to the invoice and click the link for the previous ram i purchase. the numbers on the ram are identical. also if i run the sticks separately they run correctly but together they run like differently. I also forgot to mention that i had to change the settings in order for w7 not to crash every 5 mins. This is the ram i ordered. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=O261-9062

Does anybody have any idea what to do? Could my mother board be screwing the ram up? I'm lost

Depends on what you want to do?

For future reference, unless you buy all your RAM at the same time you'll never be able to guarantee that they'll be identical; in fact, because memory vendors constantly change their memory's SPD chips, it's pretty much a given that they will not be identical.

As to why you have what appears to be two entirely different kits? The link you gave led me to an unavailable item. Perhaps Tiger Direct ran out (or discontinued it) and just filled the order with the next best thing. Afterall, memory is rated, not set at any certain speed.

Unfortunately, timings and voltages don't seem to be matching up too well...

Since going low didn't work out, you might want to try and go high? Instead of running at 1066 or 1333, try running your RAM at your new kit's speed and voltage. Of course, you're going to have to relax your timings to accommodate your old kit.

If that doesn't work out then I don't know... RMA it and at least get your money back.

I actually ordered this ram around the date that I started this thread and that is why it is now unavailable. I did not know that buying them at separate times would get me different chips so thanks for that piece of info. I guess Ill start fudging with the numbers to see if i can get them running better. I'm just really confused because when I switch the old sticks with the new ones then I get identical speeds. Anyhow I'll figure it out. Once again thx for all the help.
