Norton had a hissy fit with AV-Compatibles so have not participated in the last two years. They did not like one of the test that they failed and AV-Compatibles said they would not exclude Norton from any one test. It was all or nothing, so Norton bailed.

I see.
Bailing out is a 2 edged sword though. I still use Norton NIS along with Malwarebytes. If I had placed too much emphasis on AV-Compatibles I may have excluded both because they aren't represented. If Norton gets a legitimate bad rap I'd drop it.

I just got a new NIS 3 users for $20. I like Norton best. Although the Kaspersky results are impressive, I stopped using it because it was too messy.

Kaspersky's results do look impressive.

I'm using Avast, which managed to scrape into the Top Ten (9th place).

Hmm well I have used Kaspersky for the last four years and apart from a slow load on the laptop it works just great. Am not keen on the new settings / GUI but for the money such good value.

Frankly I am surprised by the result of the McAfee.

I have been using Norton for the last 4 years and just re-upped for another year this week. They have been a good product but new management have pissed off some of their customers with changes to their ID Safe vault. They also had a lot of bugs with their 2013 version (ver 20) but finally got them worked out just before releasing the 2014 version (ver 21). They really screwed up the ID Safe vault on 2014 and have a few minor bugs with it. I am staying with 2013 for now and see how the 2014 version works out.

Frankly I am surprised by the result of the McAfee.

As far as I can remember McAfee has always been go at stopping infection. The problem has been it's also good at stopping Windows 7 from working.

Panda did very well there, I currently am using that instead of avast. I am liking it. It has a few more False positives, but I have not experienced any. Its a lot more lightweight. I never realized how much avast slowed me down on copying and opening programs. But again, avast latest version is still buggy. Although I have not tried the newest one they released yesterday. I kind of miss it. I really like avasts options, as panda is kind of lacking on some things. But man, Panda is very light compared to avast...

Believe me, you are not missing a thing with the newest Avast, too many problems.

Panda sure looks good there albeit with a lot of false positives as stated. Kinda want to try it, but isn't it cloud based? I know, I know but I'm still leery of putting my protection "up there". That would account for it being so light though. I've sorta kinda been looking around for a different A/V as I am NOT happy with the Avast changes. Looking at Bit Defender more and more .......... just might take the plunge someday soon.

My Avast IS has 72 days left on the subscription and would to replace it. To me Avast has more and more problems, the newest version has had the most so far.
Not a fan of this cloud stuff either, I just don't trust it.

Nice to see Avast! is above AVG and uses much system less resources.

Avira has always been good on detection and system resources but it's missing a lot of key features that's just not acceptable in 2013, no web guard without toolbar, no email scans, no way to turn off notification offers and a really dated interface really hurts it's useability thus why I switched to Avast! as couple years ago.

I just turn off all cloud stuff in Avast! including streaming updates and reputable scans, Avast! also adds an Emergency scheduled task that check for updates at each user login and another that runs every 12 hours on top of the 4 hour interval checks Avast! defaults with.

With all that interval and login update checks, Streaming updates can be still useful be not needed IMHO. I also customized Avast!'s installation to not install any of the features besides rescue disk and maybe software updates.

You can customize or disable the Avast! scheduled Emergency update check if you want to, I leave just the login update check with Avast!'s default 4 hour interval check cause I want my virus definitions to be the most update at system startup and every 4 hours for a update check is good enough for me it's still more frequent than Avira's every 6 hours update check.

I've used Norton for probably 5 or 6 years and never had any problems with it, but it's bothered me for some time about Norton dropping out of the AV Comparatives testing.
My NIS was due to be renewed so a few days ago I decided to give Kaspersky a shot. The test results reported in AV Comparatives were pretty impressive so we'll see how it goes.

I used KIS for a few years and it is great but I switched to Avast Internet Security due to the cost savings.
