BSOD on startup, Win7 Professional 64bit (0x00000000000003...)

Hi all,

From one day to the other my laptop won't start anymore, it crashes during the boot sequence the moment it should usually display the login window. When I shut it down yesterday, I remember windows update installing 2 (?) new things, but I can't tell what it was.

Safe mode does *not* work, if I press F8 during boot the internal speaker makes a continuous, high-pitched noise and the screen freezes instantly.

The file system is encrypted with TrueCrypt 7.1a (AES 256), however from a Linux live-boot stick I've got access to the system partition mounting it through Truecrypt with the bootsequence option enabled, so I have access to the .dmp's - but lacking another windows computer, I don't have the tools to run through them. I found an online dump-checker at OSR Online - The Home Page for Windows Driver Developers but the result is not as straightforward as I was hoping for, maybe one of you could help out?

Please note that on the Linux live stick I only have access to the most basic functions, therefore I couldn't run the recommended tool to extract infos from the dump, I don't even have an archive manager pre-installed to zip the file. In order to upload the file for you I simply added .log to the extension - hope you don't mind.

Hello and welcome Viking mate when you say you cannot access safe mode and you hold down the F8 key are you doing just that or as you should - constancy tapping the key on power up?

If you cannot get safe mode then something is very amiss.

I've tried both tapping F8 and holding it during the boot sequence on multiple restarts. Both options used to work in the past (had to reinstall network drivers once). Now I'm getting nowhere :-\

Sorry Viking is beginning to sound like the hard drive has died can you hear it spin up on power up?

Could you post a few more details (specs) on the machine mate as we need to know what we area dealing with - age wise and if the machine is a pre built or one that you have made up yourself.
We shall need to know at least what mobo and CPU RAM GPU and PSU are please.

Well since I've replaced the hdd with an sdd, there's nothing around that could actually spin up, but when booting from my Linux usb stick I've got full access to the files, so I'd say the disk is not the problem here.

I've bought the laptop out of the box (Lenovo ideapad n581) with an Intel B960 CPU and Intel HD 3000 onboard GPU. I've upgraded the memory from 4 to 8GB, and replaced the internal hdd with the above mentioned sdd (Samsung 840 basic series). I dont have access to the specific mainboard right now, but the chipset is Intel as well.

I bought both laptop and the additional components in March, so the whole system is less than a year old.

Just ran a SMART test on the sdd from my linux boot stick, no errors on the sdd, all healthy...
RAM is 1x infineon and 1x corsair, 10600 DDR3. Will be starting a memtest right away, but again I feel that the issue is most likely somewhere else as linux has no probs whatsoever.

Well it will be interesting to see what the memtest comes up with Viking.
When you run it mate make sure it is for at least 8 passes unless the errors come up straight away

Will do! Memtest is running now, and I'll be out shopping for some last minute gifts, so chances are that way more than 8 passes will run through

Yes ate but do make sure it is at least 8 passes unless as I said errors come up straight away. It may take longer than you think.
