Windows Reinstall, wont take SP1 media refresh with original key

Hello. Its that time of year where I would like to reinstall windows and reformat the SSD. I would like to save myself some time by getting a Win7 SP1 media refresh disc, but last time I tried that, it would not take the product key from my original disk. Any ideas? Or do I have a long day ahead of me?

Did you have an issue with a computer name giving an error? I understand that's what the Media Refresh version addresses. I don't know the answer to your question.

1) Click Start, and in the Search box type: slui.exe 4

2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

The problem is. I have an original Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Disc. However. I realise that you can obtain a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 media refresh disc. That should reduce install times. I tried burning the latter ISO onto a disc and tried installing with that. But I need a product key. It won't take my product key from my original disc.

The w7 SP1 iso should work the same as a w7 SP1-U iso.

You need to be more specific....exactly what error message do you get when you attempt activation?

So how do you know it wont activate then?

Because it did this last time. I tried installing the burned ISO win7 and it just refused to activate. Then I had to reinstall with the original disc because it wouldn't take the key.

Doesn't make any sense to me....we have helped many 1000's of people do exactly as you intended, always with success. This is definitely a retail version correct? Not OEM or MSDN, or anything else special?

Yes, it is. I built this PC hence I needed an OEM one. Please be aware this tool is run on the current windows, as in not the reinstall because I'm fearful of doing it if I cant activate it again. So this has the same OS and Key I would intend to reinstall, if that makes sense.

You are trying to install a retail version of Windows with an OEM key. There is some additional gubbines in the OEM version of the disc. What those are im not sure.

So what do I do? Can I do anything to quicken the reinstall or do I just use the oem disc and face hours or days of updates?

Use Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download

Follow the same steps as given in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

It will always activate with a genuine Product Key as long as you input the correct characters which is easy to mess up.

To avoid 100+ Updates since SP1 slipstream in the later updates following Update 7 installation media - Windows 7 Help Forums.
It may look intimidating but it only takes about a half hour if you follow the steps.
