Can't wait to file those taxes I think i'll get just one 780 seems AMD is headache on wheels lately

All of the latest drivers makes my GPU's go Bonkers and then i would crash
disabling Ulps in the registry on the cards don't work and i am forced to run just one gpu or the 2nd one will end up going 99% load and possible burn up

Only with AMD but i have reverted back to 13.10 driver and disabled the ulps i am gold for now but kind of butthurt AMD drivers are going to hell

A single 780 is fun, and you can always get another one in the future if you need it

Ultra low Power State AMD ULPS (Ultra Low Power State) Disable Tool

This is a tool to do it but i did it myself in the REGEDIT also this is the same type of fix that will apply to SLI as well as i heard Multi card setups bugger out too like this 1st gpu fine 2nd 99% load almost any time you open a browser or just at random it is really a dire situation

Thus far with what i have done now it hasn't done it and i am able to do things with out the 2nd one going apesh*t

FYI it's the same fix with sli too i assume because it falls under the same control set

I was out of town from the 20th to yesterday and didn't have a lot of time for posting. I'm recovery mode from the trip today and have to see my doctor tomorrow but after that, I have to spend time tracking down the source of the small flood I found after I got home and drying things out (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble). Oh well!

The TV tuner has been in my plan from day one. The reason I might want to change out the card reader, even though I'm happy with it, is I've found I don't really need the three USB 3.0 ports it gives me and it bothers me that it eats up a PCI-e slot (in case I want to add a second TV tuner or a USB. 30 expansion card; if a MOBO and CPU with more PCI-e slots and more than 40 lanes ever comes out, it will be hard to resist). A USB stick in a port will stick out into my traffic path and I'm concerned I will blunder into it (I'm such a klutz!), either breaking it off or doing damage to the computer itself. I found a cute little two port USB 3.0 hub I'm using on my desktop; I've never had more than one USB stick plugged into it at one time (other than to test it) so it works well. I also have a two port USB 2.0 hub in my monitor hooked up so I don't even need the front panel USB 2.0 ports, either.

The downside to switching out the card reader is I would lose two of my four USB 3.0 ports in the rear since I would have to use the USB 3.0 header on the MOBO that is currently feeding two ports on the rear (the MOBO has only two USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O panel). I could use a USB 3.0 expansion card like this one (the only one I found so far that uses x4 PCI-e lanes instead of just one; it can run all four ports at full speed) but I would lose that PCI-e slot again and I might want a second TV tuner so I'm a bit torn about which route to go.

I'm constantly lusting for the new x79 MOBOs and CPUs coming out but I have to keep reminding myself that I need to put a lot more mileage on my present rig before I start building another one (I've also lusted for the Corsair Obsidian 650D case but I don't have room for it.)

Most TV tuners that do Over The Air Reception and Cable in the US and Canada are now dual tuners so you can record and watch a different channel at once. 2 of my computers do this and both have single tuner cards from 2011 and one has an add on tuner card got on clearance. We don't have cable and record stuff on the TV tuners and watch stuff on the other card on the TV, the PC up scales regular Region 1 DVDs and Region 2 DVDs from the UK and play Blu Rays flawlessly. HD shows on PBS and the Big Bang Theory is mostly what it is set up for. Don't forget you can always plug the PCIe TV Tuner into a full size x 8 slot. I did that with my sound cards.
You can go here to see what lengths you will have to go to pick up stations. I mounted a bowtie on the side of my house (healthier times).

The tuner that was at the top of my list was a dual channel job but I just found out it was discontinued (mutter mutter, mumble mumble) so I'll be looking again. I just found out the manufacturer still has it available.

All the PCI-e slots in my computer are physically x16 long (they run anything from x4 to x8) but I know anything will fit in all of them; I already have a x1 device in a x4 slot.

I was planning on using the tuner(s) for time shifting OTA TV and, maybe, playing FM.

Further to the above Jeannie you could add the USB 3 card and stick a TV tuner in the USB port? There are several good models that usually get used with lappy's but hey it is round the back so who cares.
