Hi guys I am running windows 7 Pro 64 bit edition with all the latest updates.
My question is on the computer has two user accounts the second uses has a limited account so is not able to install programs and this is what I wanted.
But when I install programs on the administrator account it places setup icons on the limited account and when I click on these icons it asks for the administrator pass word then installs the program.
So is it possible to hide these icons. I have tried putting them all in one folder and then hide this folder but then it removes them from the administrator desktop

If you install a program.... it installs the program.

No install icons should appear on any account afterwards! The program already has been installed.
So.. what do you mean?

Hi sorry I have mislead you when I install some programs it asks if this program is for all users and those programs run ok.
But some programs don't ask this and places an icon on the second user desktop and then when this icon is clicked it asks for the administrator password.

I thought this was to install the program but it is not the password is just needed to run the program not install it.

But I want to hide any program icons I don't want the second user to use, if the second user does not see the desktop icons they will not try and run them

Hello Sam,

In Windows, there's two desktops.

One is the current user's desktop at: C:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop

The other is the public desktop shared by all users at the hidden folder: C:\Users\Public\Desktop

When this happens, you could remove (cut) the shortcut from the public desktop, and copy it only on the user desktops that you want to have a shortcut of it.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

If the password is UAC to elevate the permissions.... all users have this problem. Even administrators! Is that the case? Only built-in user adminstrator has admin rights by default.
