Well I am a bit of a neat freak when it comes to cabling. Just wish I could get it neater. My next goal is to replace those blue USB 3 cables with neater and black.

A black felt marker works great for blackening cables.

Look automotive for Convoluted Tubing. It comes is a bunch of colors. You can in case those harness in what ever color you want. There are probably lot of sits but here is a example.

I've thought of that Jack, I've always heard it called "corrugated" though.

It might be in some circles but in automotive world its called convoluted. Either way I took a bunch off of wrecked cars and saved it and I now use them.
They are black of course and come in various diameters and lengths.
If black is the desired color a auto junk yard or body shop could be your friend.

You can get the black corrugated/convoluted split loom at any hardware store or home center. It's not expensive.

Yeah you can, when I worked at NAPA we called it split wire loom. It comes in sizes from about .25" ID and up.

So as discussed earlier, I needed a power supply for my backup system and one of the suggestions was to look at the EVGA Supernova 1000 G2. Though I initially balked because I didn’t want to spend that much on a backup system, and wasn’t looking to replace my Antec Signature SG-850 in my main rig.

After reading Johnny Guru’s review on the EVGA though I decided to get it and move the Antec to the backup system. In fact, it was Johnny’s review of the Antec that helped me get it. Anyway…

EVGA recommends the fan be facing down when installed at the bottom of the case but I didn't want to do that as the fan intakes air and I don't have a screen on the bottom of my case. Anyway there's enough air flow in the case that it shouldn't be a problem facing up. It's not as though this thing will be pushed to the point of maxing out the fan anyway.

Here’s some physical comparisons between to two power supplies…..

Both are solidly built, use high quality Japanese capacitors and parts, and are heavy. The Antec is 80 plus Bronze, whereas the EVGA is 80 Plus Gold.

I have to say though I kind of prefer the fan being on the back of the power supply as opposed to top or bottom.

Also the Antec's fan is a lot quieter than the EVGA. In fact the Antec is so quiet I’ve had to check at times to see if it was still running. The EVGA isn’t loud per se, but you’ll hear it if you're near it.

And as you can see, the EVGA is longer than the Antec, though they both have about the same weight.

Love the totally modular design. Makes for really neat cable management. What I don’t like, are the exclusively red PCIe VGA cables (shown in system image). Had to use my NZXT cables to hide those.

I can't say I needed a 1000 watt power supply, in fact I don't; but for the price ($140 with credits & rebate through Amazon), and the quality of this thing... what the heck.

I'll install the Antec in the backup later this week.

Hate to keep bringing up my rig, but does anybody know where I can get green rings or do I have to spray paint myself. Would like to match the green accents of the MB....



Kind of scared to paint myself as I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and scared I'll mess them up instead

I had quite a good look online and all it brings up is White,Blue and Red. I don't think they make them in green.
One of my searches for Green bought up a picture of someone spraying them green himself.

Yeah I was afraid of that as I saw the same thing you saw with regards to painting them. Was hoping I could purchase them as I'm afraid I'll mess them up during the spray paint procedure.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to suck it up and get some spray paint

Do you have the white rings as well? I'd try painting those as any color behind the paint may cause the paint to look a bit off.

Are the rings plastic? If so, there's a very slight chance that they'll take a dye like RIT fabric dye. Used to do that when I raced radio-controlled cars. Only works on certain types of plastic, though.

Drew, try the painting out on the color you know you're not going to use. If you mess it up, no big deal. You should be OK if you just do several light coats. But, that's a fantastic job with the wiring. Great work.

Yes I have the white ones. The fans came with red, white, and blue. And yes, they're plastic

I tried the white ones and they really looked out of place at that time. Looking at my system now, I might have to give the whites another go, though green would be killer.

Yeah, for a myriad of reasons, the white ones seem to be it as I don't have to worry about bleed through.
