Take Advantage of Aero

Microsoft has a beautiful thing in Aero, but it isn't using it to the magnitude that it could be. One suggestion, cut out the white backgrounds on windows such as the control panel and windows explorer, and replace them with a glass background. If more than one window is open, make the active windows glass more opaque. That way items on the top window wouldn't be confused with items in the window behind it. That would be gorgeous! The Same idea could be applied to the start menu. The right side of the start menu is that beautiful glass, but the left has that bland white background. Make it all glass!

What do you guys think?

Post your critiques and other ideas concerning the expansion of Aero Glass throughout the OS.

Hmm, having the background of Word 2007 transparent would be very cool. However, having too much glass in the interface could make things a mess. Trying to read the blue text in control panel over a blue background might be trouble.

Yes I agree that it would look better and it's also a feature of WindowBlinds but I am not sure it's something that the majority of uses would like, so it's probably better if those sort of features remain with 3rd party developers.

The problem with Areo is how it works, drawing over an entire surface is hightly problematic... all black surfaces like text also become see-though and it wrecks the icon surface...

I have tried to use a similar approach with drawing Areo over my applications but it requires lots of code to compensate the images and text that need exclusion from rendering... Plus dont forget users with lower end hardware it becomes highly unusable and ugly :(

Why not use the feedback link to submit this idea to ms?
