2014: The year of Windows 7?

If you’re still scratching your head over why HP is pushing Windows 7 over Windows 8, this might give you a clue. Shawn Allaway, the CEO of Windows migration assistance firm ConverterTechnology, tells Network World that the impending death of Windows XP has led many of his customers to ask about upgrading their systems… but not to Windows 8. In fact, Allaway says that none of his customers have chosen Windows 8 so far and most of them will likely upgrade to Windows 7 instead.

That's interesting to me because I never installed - used Vista on any of my PC's.
Going over the call volume & logs from work maybe 3 out of 20 users have W8, the rest are on 7 or finally moving to 7 from XP. Wait, I remember a caller with Vista.

I don't think they mean it literally.

The point being Vista did badly for them. Win8x has also done badly for them. Worse in fact. More of a problem for MS is that when Vista was around, the consumers sat it out, they didn't have anywhere else to go.

With 8x, MS has been losing customers. They may never get them back.

definitely a interesting read there on this article. And somehow i dont blame them totally. As everything Ive heard from people about windows 8 has not been very positive unfortunately. Just another reason to keep windows 7 for now.

I also liked Vista (this was my first Windows 64 install), but I waited almost a year after I bought it to install it. I waited for the first service pack before I installed it.

I wish Microsoft would have adopted this philosophy for Windows 8 instead of panicking and developing a one size fits all OS:

Interesting statement in that too that MS maybe thought W8 would "reignite interest in the PC". I don't see how, since W8 is made for, aimed at mobile touchy-feely-tappy devices and takes some fiddling to work well on a PC. I think what MS is attempting is to simply go head-to-head with Apple.

I work in health care. We have over 25,000 devices we will have to migrate off XP. We will be going to Windows 7. Infomation is life blood in health care. If it ain't right, nobody gets paid. Ever work with physicians?

Yeah, I visit them and would be more concerned about my info and health than a paycheck.

I went from Windows 95 to Vista, then to 7. While I liked Vista & had no problems with it, I do prefer 7 as it faster & is the best OS from MS so far.

The fact is Windows OS was made for Pc Desktop/laptops users mostly and the habits have made their way to last long. When i first install beta Windows 7 nearly five years ago aswell windows XP user since early 2001, this was a big Wow revolution in my digital life. But i can't takeover now upgrading to tablet PCs, now as i've not the feeling and habits of such hardwares. I even drop my cell phone back in 2006!

I learned to like vista through my mother Desktop computer (she bought it mid-2009).

Sure that's make sense the next upgrades will be more adapted to my need and we'll be all surround by touch screens PC anyway. I feel quite geek inside and do love a lot reviewing hardwares for the future...MS let me time to get use to it!

Touch screens just aren't logical for many things, graphics and typing for two. I'd still rather touch my keyboard and mouse. I just want to keep a good computer-centric OS, not something that has to be fiddle-farted around with.

Actually I was surprised how easy it was at the time, 2007, as the desktop etc was virtually the same. I had been using my old Win 95 computer right up to the change over, so I just seemed to adjust quickly. Of course it did take awhile to find out how to do certain OS adjustments & customising.

I think you have the impression that I upgraded Win 95 to Vista & then to 7 all on the one computer. Actually they were on 2 completely different computers, the first one had Win 95 & was replaced with a new computer running Vista & this was upgraded to Win 7 later.

But sometimes an Invention becomes a Necessity.​

and sometimes big companies just throw away everything and start again, CALLING it Invention or Innovation.

Such as with Office and, to a lesser extent, Windows. Good luck with that. To the experienced, it's called Frustrating. Vote with your corporate dollars.​
