Error: 0x00000124 - System encountered an uncorrectable hardware error

Hello,

From day 1 my computer crashes to blue screens with various messages, such as Memory Management, System Service Exception, Kernel Data Inpage Error, IRQL not less or equal, and a few others that I can't remember anymore, but recently more frequent is the one saying "the system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error".
I have only a few programs installed on this computer, and I mainly use it with Photoshop, therefore most of the crashes occur while I use Photoshop. But some also occur when I do absolutely nothing, or I leave the computer with the desktop showing, and I go to the kitchen (for example), or, when I transfer files from an external HD to a flash drive, etc, so I can't connect a particular program to a particular error message.

I restored the computer a few times to factory defaults.
Windows is up to date.
I use Norton Security Suite.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I reached the end of my powers and patience. :(

You have quite a variety of BugCheck Codes, but the main concern at the moment
are the 0x124 bugchecks.
Those are usually a hardware issue, in your case it points to the PCI/PCI-e ports do you have
Are there other expansion cards installed apart from the GPU?

  1. Is your GTX 560 Ti overclocked?
  2. Are you monitoring the temperatures?
  3. Have you tired a different pair of PCI power connectors to run to the card?
  4. Have you tired the second PCI-e slot?
  5. Have you tried reseating the GPU making sure it is firmly in place?

What is the make, model and age of your PSU?

:ar: Test for thermals and stability:

  • Download HWinfo and post a Screenshot of the sensors window, one at idle and another while putting load on the PC using Prime95 for the CPU side and Furmark for the GPU.
    • Before running Prime95 make sure to enable Round-off checking (see 1st post under the tutorial).
       Note
    It is not mandatory to run both tests simultaneously, although possible as long as the temperatures are under constant monitoring.

Thank you so much for your welcome greeting and for your reply. I very much appreciate your interest to help me.

I'll try to reply to your questions the best that I can, considering that my knowledge is very limited.
I don't know what you mean by "expansion cards", I personally didn't install anything, and the most that I know that the computer came with in addition to the GPU is a network card and a sound card. I can definitely take a few snapshots of the interior of the computer, maybe you can tell what's there.

1. The GTX 560Ti is not overclocked.
2. I wasn't monitoring temperatures, but I started doing that after your reply. Temperatures are within normal limits, usually in the 20s and 30s. (degrees Celsius)
3. I replaced one of the power connectors after your reply. The other power connector is built-into the power supply, therefore I cannot remove that end in order to replace it.
4. Following your reply, I also tried the second PCI-e slot, after which I started the computer, and all I did is open an internet browser to read this thread, and the computer crashed to a BSOD with the same error 0x124.
5. By GPU you refer to the graphics card? If so, yes, I moved it from one PCI slot to another and made sure it's firmly in place

The PSU model is HEC-K12TB and perhaps was made in 2012 when my computer was built, but I can't be sure. In any case, it seems to be this item here: HEC Group 1200W Power Supply - ERP Ready, 80+ Bronze, Cable Management, 140mm Fan (HEC-K12TB) at TigerDirect.com

I can't use the Power Supply Calculator because I do not know all the specifications in the second column of that form, such as what type of fans, and what type of PCI cards I have, etc...

I ran the tests for thermals and stability and I'm attaching the results as you requested.
I ran Prime95 for 2 hours as they recommended on the link you included, and all tests have been passed, no errors, and the temperatures didn't go over 62 degrees C the entire time.
The FurMark I ran it for about 11-12 minutes, no artifacts, no errors, no crashes, and the temperatures remained all under 51 degrees C.

I want to mention that I never put so much stress on my computer as these tests did, in fact, most of the times when it crashes, all I do is simply click on something, such as "save" option in the menu, or any other basic option on the menu, or minimize a window, or click on an icon on the desktop, etc..basically makes me be afraid to click on anything. It never crashes when I use a more demanding task in Photoshop, but just basic things.
Could be the mouse that I use? I use an old SP2 mouse to which cord I attached a USB converter, since my computer doesn't have the right port for that mouse.
Sounds a bit unrealistic that a mouse could cause so much pain and nightmares, that's why I didn't attempt to buy another mouse yet, and completely disregarded the possibility that could be the mouse.
I also use an old USB Compaq keyboard that I got used to it.

Another thing that I want to mention, is that I also have a 2T internal HD that came with this computer, which I currently disconnected to eliminate the possibility that it could be the issue, since image files (jpgs and CR2) became damaged on that drive. Also, I would turn the computer on, and the 2T HD would show on the list of "my computer" and then minutes later, or 1-2 hours, whatever, it would simply disappear from the list. If I had a jpg file that was located on that drive, opened in Photoshop and working on it, and the drive suddenly becomes unrecognized, then I assumed that a Blue Screen occurred when that happened.
I started using an external HD, but it seems that the same happens with the external HD, and images start to become damaged on the external HD as well.

The list of nightmares is unlimited , unfortunately. :cry:

Thank you very much for reading my thread and for posting your reply, much appreciated.

I ordered this custom-made computer in 2012 from CompUSA.com, but soon after that, CompUSA (Ohio branch) closed down.
They accepted my computer when I sent it back to them, but took them several months to send it back to me due to them being busy with packing to empty their facility.

They said that they replaced the CPU, the motherboard, 4 memory sticks (out of 8), and the cooling gel, even that this was a relatively new computer, with probably no more than 20 hours of operation in 10 months that I had it up to the day when I sent it back.
When they returned it, not only that the box and the chassis was severely damaged because they put it in a huge box with almost no packing material, but also the blue screens continued, so I don't know if they replaced anything at all.
When I called them, they told me that they can no longer do anything at their facility, because they will close down in a matter of days, and they redirected me to TigerDirect who took over their claims, I guess.
TigerDirect said that I need to wait till they call me, since they had a new facility in Florida that was about to open and that's where I would need to send the computer, but they never called me, and then the warranty expired.
A very sad story, I am left with a "new computer", for which I paid a lot, and that I can never really use. :(

I think you have a case against CompUSA / Tiger - it will take determination and stamina to get through it.

The warranty should still be in effect since CompUSA "repaired" it and then asigned further work to Tiger.

It's up to you. SF members can try to help get that machine to some stable working state or you can persue the RMA path. Given the history, I'd light a fire under CompUSA and Tiger.

I suppose you could take both tacts.... you might have to wait a while to get the answer you deserve from compUSA / Tiger.
