So I've just recently noticed these squares in random locations across my screen, they don't move but I can only see them when the windows aero part of the window passes them. I have attached a picture as well. Does anyone know what this is?

Bad video card or a bad monitor.

Start testing with other components if you have them.

How would I go about testing them individually?

Swap out the monitor, swap out the card.

Test the monitor on another pc, etc.

Last time i got this kind of problem was due to instable graphic card due to overclocking, you may want to check if your graphic card is stable by stressing it with something like MSI Kombustor.

Well after running the fur mark test I did notice some artifacts near the bottom for the beginning of the test but that looks like it may just be part of the program itself because when I run a burn in benchmark for 15m I don't see any artifacts at all and it runs just fine for the whole 15 minutes. Also I got a burn mark score of 2011 if that means anything.

Also all of this seems to be revolving around a central problem a can't seem to fix not matter what I do. For a while now my computer has been hard freezing, as in it has locked up completely at random times forcing me to shut it off via holding the power button. I have not posted this yet because I am unsure where i would put that problem. Also, when I turn it back on the computer will have switched to windows basic theme and its takes me restarting the computer to get windows aero theme working again.
