Solved Frequent BSOD (usually) upon alt-tabbing from games.

Alright, so I have done a little research before making a thread here as I really don't want to waste anyone's time, but I am at wits end here with my problems.

Background:

Around 30th December I bought myself a SSD and installed it into my PC and created a fresh install onto the computer and everything ran fine for about a month then I began to get constant BSOD's (0x3b and an occasional 0x50). After a bit I decided to do a fresh install (about 1-2 weeks ago) to see if it would help the problem but alas, the problem has ensued.

I had not changed anything hardware wise since installing the SSD apart from placing it on a SSD mount.

When using WhoCrashed/BlueScreen view, several drivers keep appearing (ntoskrnl.exe, nvlddmkm.sys, win32k.sys). After seeing the video related problems I potentially though it could be driver related and reverted back to the drivers I was using before this BSOD's with a fresh install (GeForce 332.21 Driver). Sadly after a short period, the BSOD's resumed.

I am quite confused about this issue and even though the WhoCrashed program relates it to a software bug, I am unsure as nothing in my system changed from running fine to BSOD's, and the problem persisted straight after a fresh install (same setup in which the system ran fine for the month before BSODs).

Steps take to troubleshoot my problems so far:

I have run Memtest86+ for a total of 6 runs (2 runs with each module, one run with both modules in) and will be leaving it on overnight to make sure.

Attempted to use the driver verifier, however it was using close to 100% of my CPU meaning I couldn't attempt to recreate the steps to cause my BSODs.

Have done quick error checking on both my storage drives.

I have also attached the files grabbed by the SF tool.

You need to start with a clean install of a genuine Windows 7. Counterfeit installations such as yours (ASUS OEM on a retail motherboard) contain heavily modified files that cause the system to behave in unexpected ways. In these cases obvious fixes for BSOD's are rarely successful, and for this reason many BSOD analysts won't attempt it.

I strongly recommend starting with a clean installation of a genuine Windows 7.

Right, thanks for your reply, thanks for pointing that out, I did not actually realise that about my copy and recieved it from my older brother. Before I got my hands on my SSD I used a 7 Home Premium, I guess I will go back to that (as I haven't noticed any major differences) or possibly look at Win8.

Windows 7 Home Premium will work nicely on your system. The only reason you would require Ultimate is if you required access to different languages, or Bitlocker encryption.

Apart from that, there is practically no difference between the two, especially with regards to performance.
