downloading programs

for those who answered my previous post fire fox thank you.

the problem is worse than I thought I can't download any programs at all including the ones mentioned in fire fox.
actions -----press download button ---message appears do you want to open or save---I press open and nothing happens at all, I do wait awhile just in case its slow, but no just wont work
action ---press save button ---it wants to know what program I open with.

Have tried downloading several programs just to test it and they all do the same

have you tried to do a system restore at all? If not i might suggest trying that: click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore and try to choose the date if it is there; before the issue(s) started happening. Try this out and see if it helps resolve the issue. If not post back and we can try something else from there.

That's the way Chrome does it and the downloaded programs ends up in Downloads (unless you have changed the destination folder). In IE it's a bit different. A bubble appears on the bottom of the screen.

Some things you can try:

If your unable to download with Firefox, try to download with IE.

Try a different Computer on your Internet connection. Does the other computer download?

Try a Clean Boot, will it download now?

Which Antivirus and Firewall are you using?

Turn off your Firewall, will it download now?

Create a new user account with admin privileges, will it download?

yes I have done that to different days with no result.

tried to download another program , but this time it was a free one , it put the add on that comes with it but not the program itself.
