Though I could fix them if you want, you can safely ignore the problems reported by SFC :) I know your file is missing and the one in this article is corrupt, but this file isn't needed any more so it doesn't matter.

The SFC.exe command reports Settings.ini file errors in the CBS.log file after you add gadgets to the Windows Vista Sidebar by using the Sysprep tool and an Autounattend.xml file

It's a very bad sign that the SURT wouldn't install, but hopefully the SURT wrote a bit of data before it failed, so can you post the contents of your CheckSUR log please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

First I want to thank you Tom for taking time to help me, appreciate really !

The SFC.exe command reports Settings.ini file errors in the CBS.log file after you add gadgets to the Windows Vista Sidebar by using the Sysprep tool and an Autounattend.xml file

Actually the sfc scan report a total of 2 unrepairable files: Desktop.ini and MSDTC.LOG .. those are the file you mean to not being needed any more ? (just to make sure, because your linked article refer to file "Settings.ini" which wasnt reported in my log)

It's a very bad sign that the SURT wouldn't install, but hopefully the SURT wrote a bit of data before it failed, so can you post the contents of your CheckSUR log please:

NB: To make things faster between our correspondences, would you want me to make more scan using different tool that I might not be aware of ?
Maybe this could make the things even faster in solving my issue ?
I have heard of those on other forums: (I know those are mostly for virus/malware, but maybe they could help ? just asking... :
AdwCleaner by Xplode - Delete Adware ---> generate AdwCleaner log)
Farbar's MiniToolBox ---> generate "Result.txt"
Farbar's Service Scanner ---> generate Fss.txt
Junkware Removal Tool by thisisu --> generate some log

Thanks

Get your data off, and reinstall windows.
Do you have your Windows 7 Ultimate key ?
Clean Install Windows 7

Well thanks AddRam but b4 considering a clean install, I'd like to troubleshoot a little more first... Could you at least provide some argument to your suggestion ? .. Such answer could "maybe" convince the most newbee of us (even then), but I think I was clear on that in my first post. You know just like me that no "savvy" users here would even think of blindly clean install b4 at least trying a repair install first..

you got some impressive title tag below your name... this let me believe that you are capable of a much more helpful answer..

On a side note, my PC has never been so responsive.. but never been so corrupt at same time.. I have tons of software, data, tweak and stuff set on this rig so I'd like to push it a little bit more on the troubleshoot b4 giving up.

I'll take the lead and just provide you as much more information I can in the hope of finding something useful... We're far from a clean install here in this thread..
making those log now..

Sorry for the confusion - I originally referred to the files in plural but then went on to explain settings.ini so I can understand why you ask. Yes, both can be ignored :)

That's the wrong log, do you not have a CheckSUR.persist.log in the same folder?

With these problems there's only a handful of tools we can use: SFC (which we're using), the System Update Readiness Tool (which won't work, but we're trying to get the log for) and SFCFix (which won't help yet). AdwCleaner won't help here, plus I'm not trained to use it yet; MiniToolBox won't help; FSS won't help either because we're looking at significant registry problems in areas that it doesn't look at; JRT won't help either for the same reasons as FSS, plus I'm not trained to use it either.

No worries! That's a CBS.persist log though :) I'm guessing the SURT failed before it managed to write the CheckSUR.persist.log?

Okay, not to worry. It considerably restricts our chance of fixing this as we might not be able to diagnose the problem, and without a full diagnosis we have no idea what to fix. I would like to try with SFCFix now, as a last ditch effort:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

of course I can't run it either (error 85) ..
But as you can see I can extract the content of the installer... could this be useful ?

Well, I said it because you`ve been at it for 2 weeks. It looks pretty bad, but keep working on it. ;)

I can`t stand a system with any issues on it at all, but that`s just me :)
