I hope this is not too far off topic. You were talking about how XP will be unprotected to hackers, etc. I still run MS Office 2003. Is there any such problem with using it? I like the interface a lot better than the later ones.

Office is not going to be a problem if you stay off the internet with XP. Malware comes from the internet. If you use another means to access the internet (virtual Linux or Linux on a stick) then you have no problem.

Use Firefox with adblock plus and Noscript with your windows xp and you should be fine... getting a virus is a crap shoot, if you happen to be unlucky the day the virus went live, you are doomed no matter if you are running windows 8.5 beta lol

I don't buy into the XP end-of-life "crisis".

It will be a Microsoft End of Life crisis if they don't come to their senses. There is only so much jerking that customers will put up with.

My goverment is already warning people not to use 8.1. It even made the 8 o'clock evening news on the national TV. And once the EU get's into the act, then they are really in deep yogurt.

It won't matter for me since I'm moving to an area out of NATO while buying a Win8 computer so NSA would usually ignore the country.

I am using Windows 7, so using MS Office 2003 would not be a problem I would think just as WHS said above, but there seems to be conflicting opinions on this.

Office 2003 updates STOP also tomorrow (8 Apr) but you will STILL be able to get updates made up to that date from the servers after 8 APR.

Office 2007 and office 2010 CONTINUE to be supported including security patches -- however XP itself will receive no more security patches.

If you run XP as a VM you can still run office safely - just don't connect XP to the Internet. You can download updates separately if you want - say from ANOTHER machine (Linux if you like) and then apply to Office on your XP machine offline.

I believe using the Microsoft catalog service will work so you don't need to be connected to a WSUS server.

It will be a problem in sofar as any security exposure in Office 2003 can be exploited by malware. And those exposures, even when they are known, will no more be patched by MS. There it does not make any difference on which OS you run. Question, of course, is - how big is that exposure.

I still love my Windows XP machines and I am not happy that there is no more support for XP so I am looking for a solution to preserve my XP machines, I have looked into a product called Deep Freeze but it is a little pricy any other ideas guys?
