Solved Laptop won't see networked computers

Hi guys, I'm really hoping someone can help.

I have a network in place with STUDY-PC, LOUNGE-PC and LAPTOP and SYNOLOGYHUB (NAS)

Both the lounge and study PCs can see all the above in Start->Network. However, the laptop can only see itself. Even though the other computers can see the laptop, the laptop cannot see anything.

Actually, that's not quite right, the laptop can see the study as a media device, but not as a network place.

This is the case if the laptop is wired or wireless.

They're all on the same workgroup. They're all Win7 64 bit.

Please, can anyone shed any light on why the laptop is blind?

You should make sure the laptop isn't labeled as a Public network location. If it is then you will want to change it to a Home or Work network, what ever the other machines are.

If you can post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from each of these machines it would be helpful.

Basically just copy and paste ipconfig/all into an elevated command prompt and post the results here. I need this from each PC in the network.

You might try checking to make sure that the time/date settings are the same on all those networked machines.

The time was about 30 secs out between the Study & Synology NAS (connected to Study) and Laptop. Just adjusted the date/time to match exactly on Study & Laptop and touch wood, the Laptop now sees the Study & Synology. Will keep you posted as to whether this continues.....Never knew time could make such a difference!

Yes that time/date is a PITA, you would think that 30 seconds wouldn't matter but for some reason it does.

The Synology NAS is famous for vanishing for no apparent reason although there are multiple threads on the subject with some good fixes to fix the issue.

I don't think it's the Synology that's the problem, although it did happen on STUDY-PC and I fixed it.

What makes me say that is because LAPTOP doesn't see the STUDY-PC or the Synology so I think it is a network problem somewhere.

In which case I'd have to see the ipconfig/all from both machines.

I see nothing here that would explain why this machine can't see the network connected devices.

The annoying thing is when I synced the clock last time it showed up, now it's gone again. Vaio's really are shite laptops.
