Solved BOSD after recovery/reinstall/restore etc

A few weeks ago my system started acting up with some BSOD's. Hard drive was replaced and all was well for a couple of weeks. Now, no matter what I try I cannot get windows to operate unless in safe mode and then it is iffy.

Clean install, from ISO, Recovery Media, etc all fail to even get windows installed. It always crashes at "Updating Registry Settings", or Checking Graphics, if it gets that far. The only way I've been able to get into safe mode is by restoring from a system image. Drivers have all been updated, memory has been checked and rechecked, video card has been removed and system booted from on-board graphics, or with the graphics card the same issue.

System specs: Dell Inspiron I5 3.2 ghz, 8 GB mem, NVidia GT220, WD and/or Seagate 1 TB HDD. I have also disconnected CD/DVD burner, USB ports, pretty much everything I could think of. System dump info is attached.

Thank you.

Hi there mate!

When installing Windows it crashes so I doubt it's software though it's very possible. Let's run a Memory test using MemTes86+ and run at least 8 passes. Check this link Hardware Diagnostic | Captain Debugger see if you have a update firmware for BIOS since it's like 4 years old.

Okay, the installed bios is the newest one Dell has. Ran memtest for 8 passes w/o any errors. System rebooted and I was able to log in normally but when I opened control panel it BSOD, another 3b error code I believe. Rebooted into safe mode w/o trouble and then rebooted back into reg mode w/o problems. Only now most windows items are not working, nothing in control panel, IE froze while trying to post this. I'm on my other sys right now and will try and upload the last crash report tonight. Currently windows update is stuck on that rig.

Yup please upload the latest minidump files. Also run a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html from the command prompt in Safe mode.

Okay...since memtest seemed to have cleaned out the memory (at least it appears that way) and I was able to restore from a system image I got the bright idea to try a complete reinstall on the 2d hard drive. Lo and behold it finally worked, a brand new Win7 SP1 setup. Even managed to find the correct network driver to get on-line. However BSOD's still happening. Everything seems fine in safe-mode, that is what I'm working in right now. THe latest BSOD files are attached. It seems like some progress is being made. I did run a sfc /scannow check and it found no errors. Thank you for all your time and efforts in assisting me.

Hi there!

I'm afraid it's pointing to Hardware failure possibly bad RAM or DIMM slot because the bugcheck is hardware_ram ( ZEROED_PAGE_CORRUPTED ). If you have multiple RAM then do the test with each RAM at a time. Clean the DIMM slot properly. Run more number of passes this time say 10 passes. It's best to run it over night.

Ran memtest all day today on 1 stick, 12 passes, no errors. 2d stick testing now. However, I did notice that the CPU temp was hovering around 91-92 C, a little hot in my mind for just testing memory. It appears the heat sink/fan are not tight enough as I was able to apply light pressure and the temp dropped immediately to around 69-70C. After this stick is done testing I'll pull the fan and heatsink, clean off the thermal paste and re-apply it. I just did that a couple of weeks ago but it could be just that it was not mounted tight enough. Heat sink/fan combo is held on with those plastic pins that poke through the MB. I'll keep you posted. Len

Latest update. Did a complete reinstall from the Dell re-installation disks and install went good. Still got a BSOD so after shutting the system down I took out the memory, removed the fan/heatsink. Blew out the case paying close attention to the dim sockets, cleaned off the old thermal paste. Put the memory back in, re-installed the fan/heatsink and so far things have been fine. Be running now for a few hours w/o any problems. Now to just update to SP1. Again, thank you very much for your times and assistance, it is appreciated greatly! Of course will see how things go over the next few days.

I'm glad. Let us know how it goes. :)

Multiple BSOD's motherboard issue?

I'm beginning to suspect a MB issue as the cause of the BSODs but WIndows runs okay in safe mode. It just chokes at various times in normal mode.

Things I have tried -
Complete reinstall of Win7, wiped hard drive, sfc /scannow reports no errors, chkdsk reported no errors. Used memtest86 on all four 2 GB mem sticks, tested each 1 individually for ten passes - no errors. Tested each one in each of the four mem slots - no erros. Most recent BIOS is installed (yes, it's over 4 yrs old), updated NVIDIA drivers, tried but get same results w/just the generic VGA driver.

In normal mode, IE freezes, explorer freezes, windows update freezes. Diabled all non-micorsoft device drivers in system config and still BSOD. I'm wondering if it could be the MB or the CPU? Specs: Intel I5 quad 3.2gz, 8 GB DDR3 memory, nvidia GT220 graphics/ or onboard graphics. Attached the dump files. Thanks in advance for any help!
