Joan, I used to have serious issues with chest infections not clearing with antibiotics, If you haven't done so try to get your doctor to run specific lab tests to better target the Antibiotic to your infection type.

My consultant did this for me - Transfered me to Doxycycline, and my infections are now normally gone in a single course

The doctor phoned me back today, I took the last steroid today but still had Saturday and Sundays Antibiotics to take but he told me to stop them and he's given me another Antibiotic to take instead and will see how I am over the weekend. He said it's the underlying infection that is the problem.

I was on Amoxicillin 500mg 1 x 3 times a day. He's changed me to Clarie XL 500mg Prolonged Release Tablets Clarithromycin 1 a day.

Today is the fourth of July. For the majority of people, its a day for baseball, BBQ and being with their families. I like these things as well, but its also a time to reflect on all the trials and blood that was shed in order to form our nation! Today, I had to go through a very long security process and had to install >2 add ons for my "privacy." I had to enter the same password three times. I also had to enter something like Social Security Numbers in Korea except everyone here has one no matter their age just for buying something on the internet that is only equivalent to $5. And I thought there was no such thing called too much security.

Hope it works for you Joan, I had a period where they tried possibly all the Broad spectrum antibiotics one after the other, at all the available dosages, without luck. The fact that Doxycycline is a narrow band antibiotic designed for lung infections, (it was originally developed for the treatment of Tuberculosis), it works for me, but of course, everyone is different.

I had an interesting conversation recently with my doctor, over the merits of "random" changes and expensive testing - they came down on the side of testing - on both the financial side, and more importantly , to the patient, the medical side.

Interestingly we also talked about the actual cost of medication, my one inhaler costs in excess of £60 each, and my local boots was recently doubling up on it every month due to a clerical error

I suppose he has to watch what he gives me because of the other medication I have to be on but today it feels as if it's actually loosening up and that's only after 1 tablet, well bullet, it's a yellow capsule and not small either.

Hopefully this will finally clear it up, although I will still have problems breathing because of my insides all being squashed up because of spine collapse, but hey ho I'm alive so that's something.

Yes, thats the best thing, being alive is good, (though I haven't tried the alternative )

I find mucodyne tablets are great for the congestion - I take them as needed rather than as a regular dose - but again you have to be able to take them and I belive they can react with quite a few other medications

From your description of this "capsule" one wonders if you are supposed to actually take it orally!!!! Have you read the instructions "How to take this medication" properly?
Seriously though, I wish you well. A chest infection always seems worse when the weather gets hot!

Got my meds yesterday, somehow they seem not to work. My fever is back at 39.6°C (about 102.3°F), need to call a doctor tomorrow morning. It's no use to call now, it's 1 AM here.

Taking it easy, lying in bed, watching a pretty good TV serie from BBC I found accidentally, the Wrong Mans (no typo, it's spelled Wrong Mans instead of Wrong Men). Can recommend, an excellent show, black comedy. Phone turned off, Skype and Facebook offline, although feeling miserable I enjoy the peace.
