In short, Im really OC.

I flipped the task bar up to the top in hopes that it would be more out of my way. When I press the start menu, the rounded corners are on top, sharp corners on bottom, really it makes no sense. Is there a DLL somewhere containing the start menu GUI that I could pop into VS, export the images, throw into PS or something, flip it over so the sharp edges are flush with the task bar, and pack it back into the dll? or is there some other way I might be able to adjust this?

If not its cool.... but im keeping my fingers crossed

Yes I can.

Note how the rounded corners are on top, where the squere edges should be, in order to flush out with the taskbar.

Yes I see what you want but I have played around on my partners 7 laptop - this one is in 8 and the Start panel has all square corners - and I cannot find a way to change those corners around - sorry but have tried.

Yes mate there probably is a way if one knows what to alter in the registry or whatever. I can do some things in the reg but only basic stuff. Plus I always back up the reg after an install and before I make changes.

I figure, my other guess, as I mentioned is that it may be packed in some DLL somewhere that I can grant user permissions with the reg then throw it in VS and have my way with it. Who knows. Like I said, its not a HUGE deal, but I am very OC. Yeah I have messes, but they are all organized messes... LOL. I need this mess I call the Windows GUI to get a little organized.

Being that you brought up windows 8. I have a student upgrade with my college email address... is it worth making the upgrade from windows 7 pro to windows 8 pro? or should I hang onto my copy of win7 and hold out to drop 150 on a full install of win8 pro with my student license? Supposedly its a student discount and it is the full version of windows, the catch is that there is some extra bloat windows throws in for students that I will likely uninstall anyways.

Personally I would hang on to 7 for the time being as my upgrade to 8 then 8.1 was in hindsight a bit premature but it was cheap at the time and the 8.1 was free. Like I said I run it in 7 style anyway as I cannot stand those Metro panels.

I also fell for the apps stuff that came with it thinking the more the better and they were free only having to reinstall all over again because of the chaos.
I am a bit OCD myself and hence my preference for running 7 style.

I suppose if you can afford it would be better to retain the 8 until you have another machine to put it on - I am lucky as I have five to play with. I saw this afternoon a report in some tech site news that Microsoft are testing out the old style Start up screen and menu for 8 in any case - another reason to hold off and get any free updates as when they occur.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ill hold off to see where the service packs go, what kindof updates and future support it will receive, etc. I want to want to say that I am in love with windows 8.... but I agree about the metro board thing. It is actually one of my favorite styles for websites but as soon as I tried it out at Best Buy I couldnt stand it. Because it was when 8 first came out, though, and it was still taking its shit storm from the gaming community, which getting my degree in computer animation, I just so happen to sometimes be a part of, I was just curious if as time went on that maybe it got better or at least more of a worth while upgrade.

Again, I appreciate the help and if you or anyone else has another suggestion for me, let me know. Anyone know how WinCustomize changes it? The only product of theirs I have ever bought was object dock, and I love it, but usually dont have a reason to change windows interfaces so I dont really touch any of their other software. I cant help but believe all this is in a dll being hidden or being permission locked in the reg somewhere, and that wincustomize is just exploiting that and caching all the dll locations during the install and then giving them pretty labels so you dont think of it in terms of .dll
