Solved Router not getting the advertised speed

I have a Linksys WRT54GL Router

Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Broadband Router 802.11b/g up to 54Mbps - Newegg.com

On the router itself and even on the store page, it claims that the router supports up to 54Mbps, however I am only getting up to ~37Mbps. When I plug my computer directly to my modem, then I do get my 50Mbps connection, so it is definitely a problem with the router

Is there anything I can do to get 50Mbps through the router or is it just false advertising?

Hi Monster, this is not false advertising, it's a number of factors that come into play, you could play with different channels to receive 50Mbps, it's all down to how far away you are and what's interfering with the connection, it's not false advertising because companies say "Up to 54Mbps" which basically means it's capable of this but you're most likely not going to get this.

I found out what the problem was, apparently the firewall on the router was keeping it from going up to 50mbps, not sure why but the problem is solved now
