Solved MTP driver update only works until you unplug android device build 4.3

I have a galaxy S3. Love the thing to death.... but after jellybean 4.3, MTP no longer works. I have tried both Kies Air (not a fan) and an MTP update from windows.com that I love, however, neither work. Specifically I am talking about the MTP update I installed from windows. I run the install, restart the PC, and as long as you leave the phone plugged in during this process, all is well. It works just fine. Once you unplug the phone, however, It seems to cease to continue working. I will plug my phone in again and I get the same error I was trying to fix...

I have been made recently aware that there are a great number of fixes to this problem. One of which I have already tried which involves opening RegEdit and changing one of the WUDFSVC services to a 2 from a 1... Needless to say, if it had worked then I wouldn't be here.

-I am using 7 professional X64
-It is an S3, verizon, 4.3 jellybean build
-It is pissing me off (oh wait, thats not a spec...)

Anyways, If anyone has any suggestions. I have been made aware to try uninstalling drivers and restarting but I have no clue what to uninstall and from where.

Got it figured out.... It involved installing some verizon bloat that I really didnt want, but I got it working!

I've been dealing with this for 2 weeks now (I find that I am consumed with the issue) and I'm so glad to have found someone who has figured it out! What bloat did you have to install?

I don't use that Kies junk from Samsung.

I use PDANet+ for Android. It supports direct connection from my PC's (laptop or desktop) to my Galaxy S4 in MTP mode (which of course restricts your access to the phone and microSDHC card using Windows Explorer, since MTP does not assign drive letters).

Even more terrific, PDANet+ and FoxFi (a second product) allows my Lenovo W530 laptop to run in "tethered" mode to my S4 using the USB cable. This avoids having to pay Sprint a monthly fee to enable my S4's WiFi capability. PDANet+FoxFi is exactly that capability, turning your Android phone into a WiFi hotspot, without requiring a fee paid to Sprint.

dsperber, Thanks for your help! unfortunately it didn't work for me. What did work for me was a New USB Data Cable! HaHa!!! I have been using the cable that came with my phone for work only. I never gave it a thought because it doesn't get any real abuse like my other cables. I'm so happy it was not a Computer or a Phone issue. A new cable is a cheaper fix but I can't help but feel a little Silly that I didn't check this first!

Erm, not really, bloat is bloat. Would you like me to define bloat for you? Its extra software that is UN NEEDED that just so happens to house the drivers for my device. It is software that boots with my computer that the ONLY way I can seem to connect my phone to my computer is to allow to continue to boot with my computer / start manually and then close 5 or 6 service in the background manually when I am done.

I am not sure what you are referring to by saying I "Should know better." The fact of the matter is that I needed something to work. I was having trouble. I spent hours trying to figure it out and got nowhere. I figured because it was driver related I would come here. It just so happens that I not long after found a result. Because I cannot UN-post something which would have been preferable but not common, it has stayed visible til now. I have no shame for asking for help and certainly not for finding the answer on my own, regardless of its impact on a thread that I have not looked at in months and no longer care about. Not to mention, if you look at my join date, I have been here for 3 and a half years, and those are 580 posts, not started threads.

I am sorry you felt that my thread was less than informative. My purpose was not to help others figure it out, my purpose was to solve a problem I was having. In doing so, I expressed my lack of appreciation for the bureaucracy that comes from associating ones self with cell phone companies that we just so happen to rely on.

I hope that is enough explanation for you, about a thread that has not been touched in ages.

All well and good. We appreciate the concept, and that this solves your problem while at the same time causing inconvenience and unnecessary software installation and extraneous startup services.

So... WHAT IS THE NAME OF THIS SOFTWARE THAT YOU GOT FROM VERIZON?

What is the URL of the web page and/or download link that you went to in order to get this "bloat" which you had to install in order to get the MTP drivers you needed to connect the phone?

That's what's being asked, to be helpful to future others who might have the same problem. What EXACTLY is the software you installed??

For example, as you can see from my post #4 earlier in this thread, as I explained in that post my own solution to get my Galaxy S4 (which also connects via MTP) visible to my Win7 PC was to install PdaNet+FoxFI. Primarily this software is intended to provide Internet access to my laptop (via USB or Bluetooth connection) through the Internet access capability of the phone. To support this application, MTP connection drivers are provided as well... which then allow me to access the phone/card storage on the S4 through Windows Explorer when the phone is connected via USB cable.

I couldn't tell you. I have re-installed windows twice since this post and gotten a new phone. It is no longer an issue. I am sorry. From what I do remember, I just googled galaxy s3 drivers and snagged the "suggested" drivers off the verizon site. Realize, there is no such thing as a driver without bloat from verizon. Everything installs their odin-installer app and their updater along with constant updates to an application you only need once or twice and will likely never need again.

Sorry about getting defensive. I feel like this is old news and poking at my # of posts without context was less productive than me leaving out my solution...
