Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

Uninstall/remove AdwCleaner: click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again. Click on the Uninstall button.
Click Yes when asked are you sure you want to uninstall.
Both AdwCleaner.exe, its folder and all logs will be removed.


Right click on DDS and choose to delete
Right click on screen317's Security Check / delete

It sounds as though Jacee has done her magic. Complete her cleanup instructions and then I'll continue with the housekeeping tasks from our exercise.

I'll ask you do cleanup the utilities I suggested using, just as Jacee cleaned up the utilities she asked you to use.

Then you'll have to run Windows Update (WU) until everything is updated.

I'll post those instructions after a short while - I want to make sure Jacee is finished and you have cleaned up per her instructions.

Right click on DDS and choose to delete
Right click on screen317's Security Check / delete

I don't see any of this on my pc. I have an adwcleaner folder in c>programs but the exe isn't around. It's not in programs and features as installed. I don't know what dds is.

See if the programs were downloaded to the default location - your Downloads folder.
If any of the utilities are in Downloads, you can remove them.

Jacee wanted you to keep Old Timer TFC, but the rest of the utilities you used following her instructions are safe to be removed. I'll check back in a little bit.

Great. You could launch Windows Update (WU) and see how many updates get installed over night. I think we stopped WU when there were 115 or some large number. Getting those installed over night would be great.

Launch Windows Update
Check for updates
Install all updates offered in each session.

Some sessions will require a restart.

For tonight's WU session, don't worry about the restart until the morning, just start the download / install process and let the machine do the work.

We can pick the last few things tomorrow, but it's important to get Windows up-to-date.
You're doing fine given all the different things we're asking you to do.

Ok, that's really good news - all Windows Updates have been installed.

Give me some time to review the thread again and I'll post what still needs to be done.

Your disk is 12% fragmented, possibly more since you've updated Windows, this will negatively affect performance.

Download Piriform Defraggler from here.
When the download is complete, press the Run button on the action bar.
Answer yes to any UAC prompts and install the application.

Once Defraggler is installed - run it (it might ask if you want to launch it when you install it)
Select your C: drive - probably already highlighted, but make sure you're working on the C: drive
Press the Defrag button
This might take a while - just let it finish

When the main defrag is done
Open the Action menu
Mouse over the Advanced menu pick to expand the sub menu
Select Defrag Freespace
This might take a while - just let it finish

Then you're done with that housekeeping task.

I'll stop back in a while to see how you're doing or if you have any questions.

You're talking about Defraggler right? And this is the first run, not the freespace run- right?

Ok, let Defraggler do it's work. Once it gets to a certain point, it does go a little faster, but only a little faster

Hold off on the other housekeeping, I'd like to take this one step at a time.

Some of the housekeeping I posted earlier might not apply after Jacee worked with you. No sense in doing double duty or making the machine (or you ) work harder.

It's best to let Defraggler work without having to deal with new files being created. It's trying to organize the files on the disk and when it sees a new file and it says "hey, there's another one I have to move". You can do simple things, but try not to do too much when it's running. Again, I should have said that earlier, sorry about that.
