Can't get past BIOS logo when laptop harddrive is plugged

Hey,

I have an Asus k52j laptop and when I boot I can't get past BIOS logo but if I remove the harddrive I can access the BIOS and access any utilites on DVD. My laptop was really slow to boot and to access desktop and suddently I could not access anymore login screen and I had a black screen. Now I can't get past BIOS logo... so does it mean that I must change the HD? or it could be something else?

It sounds like you hard drive is failing. Do you have an adapter where you can connect that hard drive to another laptop via USB?

If you have this adapter, you can run tests on the now "external hard-drive". If you have another hard drive lying around and you know it is good, reinstall windows on it and see if it runs.

I just ordered à câble so i can test it as an externat on and i soûl get it wednesday.

If you don't have backups, the first thing to do is copy your personal files to an external source.

I got my cable and I can access the HD file without any problem.... so what should I do buy a new HD ? or I can fix the HD?

Edit: Program Files, Program Files (x86), Desktop, Download, etc. Most of folders seem to be empty. It's odd.

Edit 2: I formated the HD to NTFS but it still wont boot when it's plugged into laptop.... it's so weird

If you have formatted the drive and it is empty, and the computer still won't POST with it attached but will post and boot without it attached, I would buy a new hard drive. It sounds like that one is dead.
