Solved WIN repair: How to find witch Windows 7 is installed:

Hello

Is it possible to capture or read witch Win 7 64 pro version is installed on my system. I could install the drive in another system and read is file trough an USB adapter

I can't boot from the drive and I got a message that I need to install the installation disc. Since I bought my licence over the net, I don't have the disk.

I did download an ISO disk, but I receive a message that the version that I want to repair is not the same as the one installed

Did you get your ISO here?

That version warning can be either you didn't grab the correct bit version (x86 or x64) or that one of the versions has SP1 and the other doesn't.

Does the install you are trying to repair have SP1?

Do you keep your windows updated? It might be a little hard without being able to boot the OS.

Let's try something else, can you point out the ISO you downloaded that may give a clue why it's giving you that message.

Yes I do keep Win update on a regular basis. last time was yesterday afternoon

I do have a French version, but can't remember if I did they language update or if I installed in french. I did bought my licence about 4 years ago from DigitalRiver ( Microsoft Student offer) to upgrade from Win XP to Win 64

This is the version that I had installed on a USB drive: X17-59186.iso

Now, downloading: X17-59337.iso Still 40 minute to go for the download

The X17-59816.iso would have been my first suggestion.

Since you have the Pro version, language packs are not included if that is what you meant by language update.

Instead of the N version you are downloading (X17-59337.iso) it may be worth trying the X17-59197.iso in the French column.

I remember that I did a language update for this PC that I'm using to wrote you, but I don't remember if I did it for the faulty one. I do know that I got Win 7 64 Pro

I did look in the french column, but it was for France. I'm in Canada so I tough that the version was not the same for the European community. I will try if this one failed

The only reason I mentioned the language pack update is because they are only available in the ultimate and enterprise versions, is it possible you changed your region and language instead?

Derekimo, I did finally succeed to repair using the latest iso file

Now I need to
- find why it did happen
- How to prevent
- Hoto be prepared for similar event.
