ftp From Microsoft Access to ISP Website does not work in Windows 7

I have a Microsdoft Access application with a feature that uploads/downloads a file to/from a website hosted at an ISP. Using msinet.ocx, this app has worked fine for years in XP, but does not work on some machines in Windows 7 even though "Microsoft Office Access" is listed in "Windows Firewall- Allowed Programs". It appears that a connection is made to the website but the ftp transfer does not take place. What must be done to enable the ftp transfer in Windows-7. Help here would be greatly appreciated.

Why not use this as your client - try and incorporate batch commands into your file transfer mechanism from ACCESS.

I think also using Ms Access you can use some sort of OBDC for transferring data. My own view of Ms Access is that it's a HORRIBLE piece of software -- if you need a database application doing this type of stuff look at a robust and FREE system like MySQL or any number of decent alternatives.

I think the filetype .OCX is an ActiveX type of control file - apart from security issues it's probably incompatible with W7 and certainly will be for Win 8/9 etc.

If you REALLY want to keep running this application I'd see if the XP system will run in a Virtual machine either in XP MODE (W7 PRO needed for that) or as a full VM.

This *might* work in W7 though -- try registering the file manually. (I haven't got access myself so I can't test this -- backup your system first in vase it hoses up things).

• In the System Manufacturer/Model Number field, manually type Desktop or Laptop adding it to the information already in the field.
• Specify Custom Build as the manufacturer if it is not an OEM machine.
• The tool does not fill in this information but it is very important if someone has to research drivers or hardware for your machine.

Log on to Sevenforums (SF) and let the tool fill in you System specs on your SF profile.

Full instructions are in the tutorial. It's a simple process and it makes that information readily available on your posts. You don't have to retype the information in any thread.

There are differences between 32 bit and 64 bit solutions, so it's important that your specs are fully populated.

The basic premise is to make sure you have the correct bitwise version of msinet.ocx in the proper system folder and that it is registered correctly.

I'll wait to post again until you provide your system specs or say that you're following Jimbo's suggestion.

Yes I can effect the transfer using LS_FTP LE. That does not soplve my problem however. This application has been in use by many clients for years and is depended upon by them. My development machine is a Win-7 64-bit machine and things work fine. In the case of one client having problems who happened to have the application on his laptop, when he took the laptop to a location outside his facility with a different hot spot, he was able to upload successfully. This might indicate that there is something about the institution's fiewall or, since things worked fine in XP, possibly some interaction between Windows-7 and the institution's firewall.

This is new information. Firewall settings are likely the culprit, not Win 7 exactly.

Test your machine at your client's site if you can. Could be a 32 / 64 bit issue where the firewall allows one but not the other.

You'll have to check how the firewall is set up to determine if a change is required to allow, most likely, the 64 bit version through. That's what firewalls are for.

Check that both are allowed to pass through the firewall.
