Solved How do i check if my over clocking is working

tital says it all so i have run msi command center and run oc engine in it but i do not know how to check if it is working i did try checking my system but it says it is still at 3.40ghz ? do i need to change some bois settings any help is appreciated thanks

The only real way to get an effective overclock is through the bios. Each chip set, ram and mobo will overclock differently so a blanket statement can be tough if not impossible. The very first thing you must realize is three important points.

1) Don't over clock anything you can't afford to replace !

2) Cooling is everything !

3) Read about the general and advanced techniques for over clocking in the bios and then go slow, re-boot and then stability test....if ok then you can push some more....up to the point the system is unstable then back it down. All sorts of things can change your overclock.

Stock coolers just won't effectively overclock. Also in the end the gains are more bragging rights then real hard everyday performance gains ! I would go slow and only OC what you can economically replace or just leave well enough alone !

OEM manufacturers are well aware of this and usually omit the BIOS settings necessary for overclocking. This saves you from failures and them from the resulting warranty claims. While it may be possible to do the risks will be high and the results rarely satisfactory.

How do i tell if my pc is an oem as i do not believe it is because it is a custom build or am i getting the term oem wrong?

If your computer is home built then it is not OEM. But that would be contrary to the specs that say it is a Dell. My comments are based on the information provided.

yhea it is home built as in a built the pc my self (it was not pre built by dell) i just put dell down as when i go to system it has dell under manufacture but it was not bulit by dell not sure why it says dell under manufacture probable just a bug or sum thing.sorry about any confusion i caused

If the specs are correct why did you choose this combination of ram.

This is not good for over clocking.
In today's computers matched ram is always the best practice.

As far as I know, Windows Home Premium won't recognize over 16.

So you've wasted 8.

You may as well remove the two 4 GB sticks, leaving you with 16---all you can use.

If your specs are correct, which is anybody's guess. I have no idea what you mean by "when i go to system it has dell under manufacture", unless you mean that this is a Dell motherboard, but the PC was built at home, not by Dell.

If it is a Dell motherboard, you will have trouble overclocking it-----regardless of whether or not you built it at home.

Windows 7 Home Premium is limited to 16 GB RAM.

In any computer there will be a RAM limit imposed by the hardware and one imposed by the OS. The effective limit is whichever is smallest.

what i mean by this is if u hit ut windows key go to computer right click it then go to properties it has dell under manufacture but i am sure it is sum sort of bug as i did build this pc myself

getting about 4ghz without any bois setting changed just by oc i think?
so now what settings would i change in bios to get like 4.3ghz if anyone has any oc videos that shows me the basics and what it means ect it would be appropriated thanks

assuming that that is 4ghz in the pick i just opend msi command center then whent to oc genie hit the oc geine button and it prompted me to reset my system then that was it

Are you monitoring your temps before and after? Have you run any stress test like Prime? Also what cpu cooler are you running?

When you have CPU-Z open, does your CPU ever throttle down to like 800MHz when it's idling, and then go up to 4000MHz when you are doing something? If it stays at at constant 4GHz, we need to address that first.
