Installing Win7 from USB requires driver (using YUMI)?

I have a 64Gb USB 3.0 stick which I use YUMI to install various tools that can boot from USB - I have several versions of windows for installation... when ive gone to install windows 7 AIO OEM it says it requires a driver? strange thing is it does not do this from the same disc - I even inserted the DVD (as requested) and it could still not load a driver...so i restarted it with the disc and it worked perfectly?

can anyone shed any light as to why it might be doing this? when I installed it onto the USB I used 'Try Unlisted ISO from GRUB' as advised by others who said it worked because the windows XP/Vista/7/8 installer lists each item as "Windows XP/Vista/7/8" and you dunno which is which

I have installed this very version from USB before but when it was the ONLY thing on the stick - no YUMI nothing - im trying to avoid several sticks/discs

thanks

also does anyone know where I can get Windows 8/8.1 OEM ISO's from too put on there?

Double-check to make sure you are attempting to install from a USB2.0 port, not USB3.0 port.

i have win8 and 8.1 (RTM) on VMware for testing WSUS Offline for work but need OEM.

also, as I say YUMI win option displays all windows with same name (unless there is a way to change it) so you dunno which one your loading

it says:

Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Loader
Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Loader
Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Loader
Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Loader
Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Loader

thats what it would say if I use the windows loading options...I was advised on here (or 8 forum) to use Unlisted ISO with GRUB but to remove all spaces in filename and that worked but as i say it asks for a driver

the USB stick is a USB 3.0 stick and was plugged into I believe a USB 2.0 port (front port on a Gigabyte H81M-H mobo - happened on someone else laptop too but cant remember if USB 3.0 port...probably)

I would rather have them all on one stick (XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 all OEM - AIO preferably) I know the Vista and XP AIO works from CD as ive used it about 10 times already with customer's product key...

those links show how to make single version per stick...not what im after but thanks

thanks

That error message you received about the driver is symptomatic of trying to install of USB3.0 port, so its worth double-checking (using a USB3 stick/device is fine though).

is there no way for me to modify INI settings of Windows XP/Vista/7/8 loader option to display correct version? - If i do them in order I could edit it one at a time? is this possible?

it was USB 2.0 through front panel:
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1150 - GA-H81M-H (rev. 1.1)

6 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers)

thanks

Did you manage to find a fix for this? I am struggling with the exact same problem on several computers. None of them using the the dedicated USB3.0 ports.
Driving me nuts.

Post a screenshot showing the layout of files on the usb stick.

Windows setup.exe expects to find install.wim at the root of the drive inside sources folder.

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing, what we are trying to achieve is to be able to install multiple windows setup with iso files directly using yumi and "unlisted iso" feature.
Can install windows fine from the same stick using -ONE- windows 7/8 extracted distro at the time but that's not what we want.

When I try using the unlisted iso (grub4dos) the setup stops and ask me for storage driver because it can't find my drives.
I browse the usb stick for storage driver and select it from the list, but it has no effect and asks me for a driver again. That being said I know that these storage drivers are built into windows so it shouldn't ask for a driver in the first place.

Which setup asks for drivers?

If it is windows setup, it gives that message if it can't find install.wim.That might be the problem.

It may not be finding it, or it may not be recognising it.

i got this partially working on YUMI but when you go to install windows from the stick it dont work, while ago when i tried so cant remember the error it threw...could of possibly asked for driver

if i recall I was told to use Grub and unlisted ISO but cant be sure - if you use the windows options you cannot tell which is which from the lists - see my previous posts

i do have YUMI running with loads of stuff on and all versions of windows but like i say when i tried either vista or 7 (cant remember which one) it threw an error during setup

i have VMware installed so may try it later

I figured out how to do it, with the help of this program
43 - Install Windows 8, Server 2012, Win 7, 2K8 & Vista from multiple ISO files on the same Flash drive - RMPrepUSB
So this is an independent program, but I just modified my YUMI install to work with it.
First you need to have Yumi installed on your USB device. All you need to do is try to add a unlisted bootable iso grub. This will create the menu.lst file and other grub setting we can use in conjunction with the linked program above. If you have already done this once then you can skip this step. When this is done download and extract firawiniso to your usb drive. Once this is done you can edit the menu.lst file under your YUMI installation USBDRIVE:\multiboot\menu\menu.lst This file contains the code for the menu where we select our iso files. Add this code to that file for each windows ISO file you want to add. The only thing you need to replace is the title and set MYISO
In this example code the title is "Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit (USB3)" and it will open the ISO Win7ENTSP1USB3x64.iso. You will need to change these based on your setup.
Code:
title Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit (USB3)
debug off
set MYISO=Win7ENTSP1USB3x64.iso

find --set-root /AutoUnattend.xml

dd if=(bd)/firadisk/au.xml of=()/AutoUnattend.xml
dd if=(bd)/firadisk/spaces.txt of=()/firadisk/ISONAME.CMD

root (bd)

write (bd)/firadisk/ISONAME.CMD SET MYISO=\\iso\\%MYISO%\r\n
map --mem (md)0x800+4 (99)
echo Mapping /ISO/%MYISO% as an optical drive...
map /ISO/%MYISO% (0xff)
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
map --hook
write (99) [FiraDisk]\nStartOptions=cdrom,vmem=find:/ISO/%MYISO%;\n\0
chainloader (0xff)/BOOTMGR || chainloader (0xff)

Any Windows ISO files you want to boot will need to be copied to the ISO folder on the Root of the memory stick. This is the location set MYISO will look for the iso files.

And that is it, you should be able to boot windows ISOs now. This code runs scripts before the windows install starts that mounts the iso as a CDrom drive.

Hope this helps.
