The sad fact is that that reasonably priced and authentic copies of Office 2010 are pretty much all gone. I was still happily using Office 2007 when Office 2013 came out. When I saw the severe licensing restrictions it had then (the restrictions have been reduced a bit since then, thanks to public outcry), the pricing (no multipacks), and how it looked, I watched for a sale on Office 2010 to make sure I had a good Office program through the EOL of Win 7. Shortly after that, I caught my 3 pk for only $99. I got it just in time because it also was the last copy my local Fry's ever had of it.

A follow up on the WPS (Kingsoft) install fiasco. Even after uninstalling, with Revo Uninstaller Pro, my MS Word and Outlook 2003 were still corrupted and couldn't use MS Word as the editor. Fortunately I had a System Restore point and I was able to recover. I don't know what else was corrupted, that was all I had encountered, so far.

Be forewarned about that suite of programs.

Absolutely NO probs whatsoever on my system -- I always test stuff out before advising others so I'm not sure what went wrong with your installation -- I always recommend taking an image backup BEFORE installing anything like that so you can easily restore if the product fails to work or causes other problems. -- I don't trust 3rd party "un-installers".

Testing on a VM is also a good idea - if it doesn't work simply Bin the VM.

I'm sorry you had trouble with the product -- I tested this with quite a few documents -- didn't corrupt my MS OFFICE 2010 in the slightest.

The last thing I'd want to do is advise people to use dubious software which hoses up their machines.

I can't say I've heard of any other instances of your experience. I've been using both Office 2010 and WPS office without problems with either for several weeks now.

Problems like that is why I always keep older versions of program installation files in case a newer version turns out to be problematic (I know this doesn't help you right now but it's something to keep in mind in the future).

Pulled the trigger on the Discount Mountain retail box. Good price and I have a plastic disc to fondle and fetish! It has shipped already so the company seems to be on top of things.

Steered away from SoftwareAu. On top of everything else they wanted too much personal info before I could even see if they took Paypal.

Please keep us posted on how this eventually works out as I'm occasionally interested in a good source for discounted software and have no personal experience with this outfit.

There's a Service Pack 2 for Office 2010 that I'd assume you'll get manually or through Windows Update. I'd guess you are entirely in the clear if you can get that installed and can go a couple of months with no complaints from Microsoft servers about licensing or authentication.

Can you install Office 2010 programs right next to Office 2003 products without problems? Or is it best to uninstall the 2003 stuff?

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, obviously - won't need em. But how about Office Publisher 2003? Not that I'm keeping it, just a curiosity really.

I've got Office Project 2007 installed too. It's in the same Programs folder (Microsoft Project). I'd like to leave that alone if I can, as it is a one license - one PC deal.

Advice please!

I think you can install Office 2010 32-bit alongside Office 2003, I couldn't install Office 2010 64-bit because I had Office FrontPage 2003 on the computer, had a warning to uninstall that first so I did and it was good timing as my Domain Hosting Service was moving away from FrontPage extensions. Office 2010 is the first to be offered as either 32-bit or 64-bit. Of course the 64-bit version has to be on a 64-bit version of Windows.

If you want Office 2003 and 2010 - especially the 64 bit version together why not make a SMALL windows Virtual machine -- could even be XP - doesn't need to access the Internet - for your Office 2003 installation -- the whole VM would run easily in 500 MB RAM !! - you wouldn't even notice it !!! and of course you can share data between host and your VM running Office 2003.

Use vmplayer (free) to create your VM.

No, I can't think of any practical reason to run both at the same time. This question is more along the lines of are there any problems doing this - bugs, glitches, gremlins - that sort of thing.

2003 is 32 bit, and I would like to install 2010 64 bit.

Oh fun. I'm think I'm going to install this on my test PC first. The one I keep in the basement chained to a pole. I can trash and re-image to my hearts content there. No time for that on my work PC.
