Microsoft paying NFL millions to use Surface, but it went downhill

In among the larger-than-life humans on NFL sidelines this season, you'll notice a slew of Microsoft's Surface Pro 2 tablets helping out. Used by players and coaches to review photos of plays, the tablets are encased in chunky cyan protective cases and have been attracting the attention of the broadcast commentators when put to use. The only problem is that the announcers don't seem to have been briefed on the name, leaving them to describe Microsoft's slates as "iPad-like tools."

See the video of it at the source below:

lol+++. A disaster & well deserved. Maybe relabel it 'Bottom of the sea 3 Pro'. And from their previous attempts, who wants to buy this thing after seeing (and remembering) a series of ridiculous ads like this > The Surface Movement - YouTube

Hi there

I just wonder how many people have actually even SEEN one of these new surface gizmos (the Surface 3 Pro -- not the RT POS) - and probably even less have actually TRIED one even in a store.

That whole article also refers to the SP2 RT which is going nowhere as is Windows RT. The Surface Pro 3 (SP3) is a totally different animal.

Connected to a keyboard and docking station the Surface pro 3 (SP3) actually makes most laptops look terrible -- laptops still are stuck with a hideous 768 X 1366 low resolution video - the surface pro 3 (remember the 3 -- not the previous models) video chip will give you a decent very high res 4K !! .

I don't mind GENUINE criticism of stuff but like Windows 8.1 itself (Not W8 which should never have been released) a lot of people just add their complaints to what they've already read without having tried or even seen the piece of hardware or software. Of course some will hate it - but hate it for a reason - don't just mouth other people's words like an automaton.

I can honestly say that with the i7 processor and decent docking station the SP3 makes my laptop look like a museum piece - and in tablet mode it's very handy and portable for travelling - if you've ever been on a long distance fairly crowded train or any sort of plane portability is the name of the game.

The "Convertible Form factor" is I'm sure for a lot of businesses the way of the future.

Obviously for some situations you can never replace a fully blown desktop but increasingly mobile workers will certainly find these convertible devices useful.

The older SP2 RT model was and still IS a disaster - but the SP3 -- I'm not sorry I bought one in the slightest - even if it is expensive - privilege of being an "Early adopter".

Cheers
jimbo

That's what I see too. Am 100% sure any of the Surfaces are technically good\great\useful, and are all capable of being used to bring it's owner millions (if the owner is capable :O) writing a bestseller, designing coca-cola's new logo, trading stocks and forex, design a skyscraper or play some games and post pictures of the cat on facebook etc etc (but all this can also be done on some 100's of products from Dell, Lenovo, Apple, HP etc, and MS has missed the train in many crucial areas, trying hard to run after it and catch up, and does many strange things in the process :O)

Disclaimer: I have never used one of any of the devices. That being said, what I see is the ignorance of the Network announcers. No matter how good or bad any device is, I would think that before they editorialize anything, it is incumbent on them to at least find out the name of the item. I mean really, "that thing-a-ma-jig over there, works real well' is not very descriptive, which is theoretically, what they are supposed to be dong. They do go down on the field and interview, players, coaches and managers. Maybe it would help if they asked, what is that thing you are using to photograph the plays?
