Raspberry Pi Foundation bakes a custom, optimized browser for the $35 mini-PC

The Raspberry Pi is a fun little mini PC you can play around with to create your own entertainment center, learn a little programming, or even use as a secondary PC. But one complaint you'll consistently hear from Raspberry Pi users is just how poor the web browsing experience is.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is hoping to change that with a new and improved browser optimized for the Raspberry Pi. The new browser is based on Epiphany—also known as Gnome Web—and was developed in cooperation with Collabora, a software development company specializing in optimizing open source applications.

New versions of NOOBS and RASPBIAN are up for download here, Downloads | Raspberry Pi. The Blog post indicated the new versions would have the new browser by default. I haven't confermed that yet, I'm still downloading the new version of RASPBIAN. Web browser released! | Raspberry Pi

You can pick them up for £25 - £30 can't you, get one and have a play

Few mates at work have them as a media centre, they say it works very well (an theirs aren't the latest model)

I haven't given it a go yet though, don't know what i would do with it, don't really have a use for one but will keep it in mind if something does pop up.

No, no SATA connectors. The OS runs from an SC card. The B+ that I have has a Micro SD card slot, 4 USB 2 ports, and HDMI out. Model B+ | Raspberry Pi
At some point I am going to have a go at setting mine up as a Media Center. Right now I'm just playing with it and feeling it out. You can't run Windows on it.

Its sorta like a chromecast but better. You can do a lot more but its ideal for a little home media center.

I bought the ribbon cable and break out board so I can play with the GPIO pins. I'm an electronic technician so that type of stuff interests me. I bought the camera module and a WIFI dongle and a case for it too.

Im not going to lie, they are beautiful little power machines.

If i was to buy one (i will ) i wouldnt use it i will just sit on my desk so i can be a true geek

You could do both. You could put it in one of these to show it off and still use it for something.

Even if you don't use it right away. Mounted in the clear case, people could pick up to have a look without damaging it with static shock etc.

I'm already doing that. I have RISC OS on one, REASBIAN on another and RASPBMC on a third. Power down, swap the card, and boot up. For me its just to try the different OS's to see what I like and don't like. I haven't tried the RASPBMC yet. I like RASPBIAN over RISC. Everything worked with RASPBIAN including my WIFI Dongle without having to install any drivers. My next step is to redo my SD Card with RASPBIAN on it for the newer version with the improved browser. I'll do that on my laptop with a Micro SD to SD adapter. What was really nice was that my Wireless Logitech Keyboard worked right away with its Unifying receiver. It's a K400 that has a touchpad built into it where the number pad would normally be.
