Hi everyone,

For some reason I can't lock my computer.
A couple of days ago it was fine, and now nothing :/

A little background, this is my work desktop, it's about a month old.
Other than various work related software (programming/debugging) and basic utilities I haven't installed anything yet.

Winkey + L does nothing, same as going to Start->Lock.
The Lock option is absent from the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen, so I checked the GPO
(which were fine) but I tried enabling/disabling anyway. No change.

I tried invoking the call 'rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation' but nothing happens.
I even invoked it directly through code to check the return value, which was 'Success' >.<

Rebooting and changing the user password didn't help either..

Any help would be appreciated!!

Edit: I also tried running 'Rundll32.exe User32.dll,SwapMouseButton' just to make sure calling User32.dll even works, and indeed it does.

Hello there, i am just wondering if you have a keyboard with macro keys that you can program?

Also can you try this:
   Information
The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.

Hey and thanks for the reply.

No macro keys on this keyboard.
I forgot to mention I performed 'sfc /scannow' already, but I did it again just to be certain...
Still no good :s

Hmm, you did mention you have looked in the REG.

It may be worth inserting your install disk and performing a repair install :)

I'm afraid that will be my last resort.
Though right now I'm more curious than anything about this problem..

If it's a work desktop, are you on a Domain and is there a IT department. Maybe they disabled Lock for some crazy reason.

Nope. While it is at work, it might as well be a personal computer.
No IT, or any other department for that matter.. (just 2 PCs on a private line).
