Microsoft’s massive staff reduction, which shocked many when it was announced in July, is back in the spotlight with a pair of reports that the ax will come down on another group of employees Thursday.

It would be the second wave of job cuts in the plan to ultimately eliminate 18,000 positions, or 14 percent of the company’s staff, by the end of its fiscal year on June 30, 2015, according to reports this week from ZDnet and GigaOM, both based on anonymous sources.

Why are they cutting there staff, there company is growing?

There company is anything but growing harrie. Microsoft is in a lot of trouble. Windows 8 isn't selling, there phones are not selling, xbox one isn't selling as well as hoped, and companies are buying less and less licenses for windows, and instead using thin clients.

One adage is "That you have to spend money to make money" ...that is why they bought Nokia, though that doesn't seem to be helping much.

One buys Nokia the new wants to sell Nokia :)

If Nokia doesn't make and develop windows phones who will this was a insurance policy made by Ballmer on a hefty price tag
What's money for Microsoft it has untaxed billions offshore ;)

Well, I suppose they could move off-shore and then we wouldn't need to care about them. Gosh, maybe the Chinese government would buy them.

Oh and those Democratic taxes pay those Republican politicians salaries too.

All of this news of another wave of layoffs coming is no surprise to me. Andrew is right when he mentioned that all of their flagship line products like windows etc has not done very well on the market because in fact they havent!. Windows 8 is a complete joke IMO and I and countless others I know will never want to upgrade to it unless absolutely essential due to end of support, etc. of windows 7 and unfortunately microsoft has done a number of things that just have not bid well with the general public and i think thats one of the bottom line things here.

MS is doing well, but laying off people helps the bottom line. Nevermind the people who loose their jobs. Also, companies streamline their processes. It's not like these are production workers, these are coders, etc.

Well unless I am reading your chart wrong, basically it says they had a .75 cent increase during a ten day time frame. Not quite what what I would say is stellar. However since 2012 it has raised approximately $10.00 per share which is not bad.
