Hello Seven Forums,

I have recently upgraded my seven year old computer running XP to Windows 7. I realize that by year five, I should have just bought a new computer but my ignorance about upgrades has lead me here. Though my upgrade experience has thus far been better then expected, I have been dogged by an occurrence of a 0x50 BSOD that crops up once every other day.

Besides help with my upgrade, I added an additional fan to my chassis bringing the total to four fans (90mm side, 120mm, rear, 120mm front and AMD stock CPU fan). I have also beefed my power supply from Logisys PS480D (480W) to a Thermaltake TR2 (600W). This has helped cut down on the frequency of this crash as well as eliminating a 0x101 that I was getting just after the upgrade.

For this error, I have been running the Kernel Mini Dumps through WinDbg but it only states that it has been unable to identify the driver causing the trouble. I think my drivers have all been updated but maybe I am missing something.

I have done multiple malware/virus scans utilizing ESET Online Scanner, Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials. The results were clean.

I have run the suggested hardware tests. For my hard drive I have run chkdsk on more then one occasion and no errors were found. I have also run the Hitachi DFT32 hard drive test and no errors were found for that.

For RAM, I have run memtest86 on both sticks of my 4 gigs of ram collectively and separately on each stick for (8) passes on each test. No errors were found.

As far as my troubleshooting goes at this point, I am not sure what step to take next. I appreciate any assistance toward my way.

Hi Sheldon Addy.

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC is there behind the BSOD.
Code:
fffff800`04419be8 fffff880`02c29767Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\Rtnic64.sys, Win32 error 0n2
[COLOR=Red]*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for Rtnic64.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for Rtnic64.sys[/COLOR]
 Rtnic64+0x5767
The driver is of Jurassic age. Much earlier than even Win7 is planned at all.
Code:
    Image name: Rtnic64.sys
[COLOR=Red]    Timestamp:        Mon Mar 31 11:09:38 [B]2008[/B] [/COLOR](47F0791A)
The driver that Realtek has in their download listing is also 4 years old.
But still that is a driver for Windows 7. Let the driver have a go there.

I've updated that driver as instructed but 0x50 is still showing up. Please see the new SF Diagnostic Report.

The suggested driver is not installed. And the previous driver Rtnic64.sys is still causing the BSOD.

I am thinking that there is some incompatibility .... but I would like to consult with maxie before deciding anything.

Thank you so much Maxie. :)

@ Sheldon Addy, please do as maxie said. It is an incompatibility issue, the driver is not for windows 7; because the age of the hardware.

If the motherboard is compatible with windows 7, then the clean reinstall will determine and add the appropriate driver automatically.

Thank you Arc and Maxie for you continued support and interest in my problem. I appreciate it.

Regarding Maxie's solution of a clean install, the 64-bit version on my system is based on a clean install exactly as detailed in that link. The driver that is referenced in the first SF Diagnostic Dump is one based on the Windows Driver Update.

It appears the link for the Windows 7 Driver Update on the Realtek site is the same as before (please see RAR file).

So I bought a new LAN card (Trendnet Gigabit PCI Adapter TEG-PCITXR). I installed the latest driver which is 07/16/2014 RTWin64.sys

Uninstalled and deleted the driver (RTnic64.sys) for the old card which is attached to the motherboard and then disabled the LAN in the BIOS.

Got another crash while watching YouTube.

Did you reinstall as arc and maxie suggested? That old driver is probably still there causing issues and the only way to ensure that it isn't is a fresh install. I agree with their recommendation.

Arc had originally suggested to do a clean install to find the most appropriate driver for the built in LAN card. My current installation of Windows 7 was based on a clean install and the driver that Windows supplied was a year older (2008) then the one that was available on the Realtek website which was 2009. Both were way out of date so Arc suggested my next move was to buy a new LAN card which I have done. And I have updated the drivers for the new card as well.

Besides that I have deleted the driver from the old card(RTnic64.sys) and disabled the LAN. When I check the location of where that driver was (c:/windows/system32/drivers), it isn't there anymore.

Hi Sheldon Addy.

The current BSOD is display failure related, apparently. And the display driver that is installed is not a very good driver version released by nvidia. It is old, too.
Code:
fffff880`02f1ba78 fffff880`0f0fdf8eUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2

Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller.

Then download and install 340.52 WHQL.

Follow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems to have a perfect and clean driver installation.

Does it change anything there? Let us know.

I uninstalled the driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. I then downloaded 340.52 WHQL. As it went through the installer dialog window, it was hit with compatibility issues: "Nvidia installer cannot continue - this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

Sorry, I should have been careful. I missed your graphics card's model number. 307.83 WHQL was the last supported driver for your card 7300 GS; which you have installed there.

Frankly speaking, the age of the system makes the possibility of troubleshooting reduced. Display usually fails with old drivers.

What about getting a new card that is bare bones? The motherboard is supporting PCIe-1.0x16 and this card is PCIe-2.0x16. I checked the drivers for it on Nvidia and the latest date was October 22, 2014. The card has a lot of good reviews too. PNY Technologies VCGGT610XPB - Best Buy

PCIeX16 ports can hold both the 1.0 and 2.0 cards. If you want to try a new card, you can get any of them. All the PCIeX16 cards are good, so the GT 610 is. :)
