I am wondering, what functions does the Fn key have for a desktop?

Im sure its used for laptops for the function keys due to lack of space or something. Im wondering as I have miss pressed it before and just want to know is it a useless key for desktops or has it some purpose?

Thanks.

Normally the key doesn't do anything if pressed without another key. Just like SHIFT which does nothing if you don't press another key at the same time.

Is the Fn-key a little bit grey/blue? Do you see pictures on some keys with same color? The pictures are kind of icons and display what that key should do in comabination with Fn.

But you need to install the correct keyboard driver to make it function as described.

theres a box around it. I noticed underneath f2, f5, f6, f7, f8 there are boxes with symbols, e, g pause, fast forward. Using the fn key on wmp allowed me to pause a video or song with it.

Under f2, is a little moon icon. Is this for sleep? It does nothing when pressed, maybe as sleep is disabled on my system?

=>So Fn-key works. Little moon can be sleep ... or even hibernate. Is sleep an option in shutdown menu? And is hibernate an option in shutdown menu?

Don't you have a keyboard manual? Or use google to find the pdf manual.

Well its not that I dont want to use it, I just didnt want to be accidently pressing anything with it. Sleep is disabled in my start menu.

Fn f8, f5 did nothing. Fn f7 stopped/ended a song or movie and fn f6 paused it.
