Hi,
This is a new system custom build with my son. Everything is new. When installing windows the process hangs up on services. I have re-formated the HDD a couple of time. Even bought a new HDD 3T WD Black, same issue. Installed from a factory OEM ISO burned into a disk. Tried from a USB as well with the same results. I have seen many posting that suggest getting a new disk or installing from a USB. What am I doing wrong?

Error reads:
The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Widows, Click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart the installation.

After restart the same error comes up over and over again.
Keith

Already have done this step three times

I have downloaded the ISO Win 7 Pro (x2) and Win 7 Ultimate (x3) to eliminate the chance of errors using different computers:
I have attempted to install win 7 pro and had the same error come up on the following western digital drives -40 gig, 500 gig and 3TB. The same with Win 7 ultimate the result is the same.
The Bios is set to Boot into UEFI mode or legacy. I will change it to UEFI only and see if that changes things.
I have successfully installed and run Ubuntu but the software that my son need to run requires Windows.

10/20/14 10:39 PM update:
Changed from legacy to UEFI option in bios. Same Results. Re-down loaded another ISO file and burned it on a DVD. Formated my laptop HDD and used the same disk to re-install windows 7 (Sony laptop). Laptop works fine. Took the same disk and attempted to install on my son's computer. Stopped at services and gave the same error.
Attached is the list of items that were purchased new to build the computer. The video card and sound card were removed and still the same issue.

Hi All,
I have worked thru the steps. I have contacted MSI and downloaded and updated the BIOS. I have also tried to install windows 32 bit and had the same results. I read on another forum that it could be bad memory, but remember that ubuntu ran with not issues. SO I pulled one of the 8GB sticks entered the BIOS and the attempted to install the the OS again. It yielded the same results. So I swapped the sticks out and the out come was still the same.

Not sure what to do next. I can get into the command propmt and see teh directory and sub directories but not sure what I am looking for.

You must have missed the step that says we need to know the exact step where the failure occurs and verbatim error text if any.

Have you tried both DVD and flash stick install.

For UEFI install, did you boot the media as a UEFI device? What are the UEFI, CSM and Legacy BIOS-related settings in BIOS setup? Pictures would help.

Windows hangs up and loops when installing at services.

You asked: You must have missed the step that says we need to know the exact step where the failure occurs and verbatim error text if any.

Exact step where failure occurs
Installation fails at completing installation and installing services. The screen "Blinks" Installing services continues to be displayed on the screen then a dialog box comes up that reads -

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Widows, Click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart the installation. and there is an OK button. This is a never ending loop!

You asked: Have you tried both DVD and flash stick install.

As I have stated in my prior post - I have tried both Flash Drives and DVD (Internal SATA DVD and External USB DVD).

You asked: For UEFI install, did you boot the media as a UEFI device? What are the UEFI, CSM and Legacy BIOS-related settings in BIOS setup? Pictures would help.

Yes I have changed the settings in the bios. There are two options "Legacy + UEFI" and "UEFI" and it does not seem to mater which setting I choose the result is still the same. I will take pictures and even video and post again.
If I leave the Primary boot setting as the flash drive the system will reboot and try to install windows again, so when the system reboots and I am installing from a flash drive I have to change the UEFI primary boot device to the HDD to finish installation.
If I install from the internal DVD DVD drive I don't have to change the UEFI primary Boot device but either way the results are the same. There are about 8 UEFI boot device options and about 12 "Legacy +UEFI Boot device options. If I choose the wrong boot device in UEFI then the system will boot into the bios shell that is a command prompt.

Thanks Keith

Keith: Try Reset to Defaults then UEFI and Legacy. AHCI settings, choosing UEFI device boot.

Are you wiping the HD? Don't create Primary Active for UEFI. Just Clean and then Convert GPT commands to try install

Finally fixed the issue Dropped win 7 and installed Win8.1

OK so I was also in contact with MSI and they told me to send in the mother board. I did and we got the new one back yesterday 11/3/2014. Still same issue. I purchased new ram as a suggestion from MSI. Still same issue. I then proceeded to go through the win 7 family OS (ultimate, pro, enterprise and home) all with the same results.
For kicks I purchased Windows 8.1 When I bought replacement memory. I put in all of the original equipment still leaving it barebones. Windows 8.1 installed very fast and the system is up and running with no issues. I have been building computers as a hobby for about 17 years and have never ran in to this issue with any computer.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Weird. Perhaps the MB is not compatible with 7. It's unfortunate that you have to go with 8.

Win 7 and MSI

The MB was rated for win 7 and boasted win 8 and 8.1 compatible. This is the reason we bought this board. I thought we would be getting the latest tech for gaming without going to win 8. I will say that win 8 boots faster than win 7. All drivers loaded without issues and it optimized itself. So far I am impressed with win 8.1. It takes a little getting use to but I still can get into the reg and config files. I bought the non-touch screen ver.
It's pretty sweet.

This thread was never Solved. We weren't given a chance to troubleshoot this completely as the steps were dropped right at the point it likely would have installed.

If not we would have gotten it installed one way or the other just as we have in every case in tens of thousands where there is interactive cooperation to completion.

Enjoy Windows 8. You could have saved the money since Windows 10 is a better version of it and already stable enough I've run it for a month without going back.
