How to configure FANs?

Hi,

Since i have no problem with my PC's Noise, i wanted to know how can i lock all fans in my computer at 100%, so everything runs cool.

try speedfan,

it's free, and it can do lots of monitoring type things, but most importantly, it allows you to control your fan, and works with most systems.

although most people use it to lower their fan speed

i'm no engineer, so please correct me if i'm wrong, but maybe it's not a good idea to have your fans going 100% all the time, it's bound to lower their lifespan. maybe 80% would still give plenty of cooling?

Wouldn't disabling Q-fan do the same thing?

If one has no Q-fan in the Bios, one can also connect the fans directly to power rails instead of the mainboard.

Do you actually have a problem with heat inside of your case??? Are your components (CPU and GPU) getting too hot???. If not, not sure really what the point of running the fans at full speed all the time is. It's going to just increase your power usage and increase the noise of the box.

Yeah, I think it would.
I've never tried it, but maybe it overvolts the fans a little?

the opposite.

Q-fan undervolts them.

Without Q-fan, they run at max volts.

Well, keep in mind that overclocking is specific to each and every CPU. Meaning that some overclock well, while others won't hardly overclock at all. Hopefully you will have good results..but there is no guarantee.

and even if you over clock, Q-fan will monitor the heat and adjust the fan speed accordingly,
so no need to have them on full when you PC is idling.

If you have a fan on molex it can run either on 12v or 5v, depending on the wires it uses.
Red is 5v, yellow is 12v (if I remember right)

But then they run at one speed regardless of the temperature.
You would need a fan controller to adjust the speed.

If you have the fans hooked to the mainboard, you have 3pin and 4pin connectors.
The fan speeds will be controlled by the mainboard.

If the fan has at least three wires, it reports back the speed to the mainboard.

Most current CPU fans have 4 wires.
I'm not sure what the 4th wire does.

Thanks. Sounds like its best to connect them to the motherboard when possible for automatic control.
