Flashing log-in screen, LogonUI.exe

is bitdefender for whoever is using it.

Bitdefender update went out this morning and killed something.

did a restore to earlier date on one system. worked fine again.

once the update hit. broke.

Oh joy. I'll try to do a system restore.

Found a fix: Replace user32.dll

I was in Windows 7 hell for the past 3+ hours. Flashing windows screen, no login prompt unless in safe mode. Event log said logonui.exe was having a problem with a call from user32.dll. However the Startup repair and registry Repair utilities failed to find any problems. Found the fix: boot from the Windows 7 recovery disc, go to command prompt and replace the user32.dll file on the computer. Reboot and voila! Everything works again!

(and for the record, I use BitDefender too!)

Lucky me I always have system restores fail on me and not change a thing. Now what, bitdefender?

Work around

We found a temp fix. In BitDefender, if you exclude both:
C:\Windows\system32\LogonUI.exe as a process
C:\Windows\system32\USER32.dll as a file

When the policy updates it should be fixed.

After restarting user computers, they no longer have the problem.

Not really a fix for us because we are looking at a lot of affected systems right now spread over a wide area (multiple locations).

How do you start up and do that with Bitdefender on windows safe mode, since its the only thing that we can use?

Don't have one, lost it ages ago, and I believe I can't create a other one if this is my only Windows PC. I can't recall, sorry, but can you do it if you have someone else's PC? I forgot about these worked as I haven't needed one in a long time.

So I take it you're a home user? I don't know what to tell you on that one. I think your best bet is going to be to call BitDefender and have them help you since they're ones that hosed your computer.

I also disabled AVC and it worked, I have re-enabled it after they posted up that the fix was out, now I am waiting for an end user to test it out.
