Installing x64 on a pc with 2 GB DDR2 RAM, Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.60 GHZ, and 160 GB HDD:

After talking to Mark/Mr.Grim yesterday about his installer for his awesome icons, he convinced me to install x64. I downloaded x64, and burned it to a dvd. Then i had some trouble getting the dvd to boot, but in the end i figured it out. The install went really fast, faster than i expected. I made a 38.9 GB partion for the x64. It installed in about 20 minutes. After install, i was really surprised on how fast x64 is. It installed my drivers without any problems, got it activated with technet key, installed various apps like PS, Firefox, Fireworks, Flash etc and again i was amazed. The speed of PS is much better than on x86!

Until now this has been an amazing experience, i will definitely use x64 from now on.

Now on to play with x64 :D

Well for me it has better performance, in all apps, including PS, which is a very good thing for me as i do a lot of graphic work.

I think it depends on other specs of your computer as well. My old laptop has a Turion 64 processor so is certainly capable of x64, however, its maxed out on ram at 2gb. I don't believe I would see any improvement with this rig running x64.

Yeppo, and it is much faster when using a SSD harddrive.

Great stuff.

Most threads are made by people asking for help because something has gone wrong. Its refreshing to read a positive Windows experience. I too have gone to x64 from x86 and absolutely love it.
Good to read some positive feedback

Sergio is a perfect candidate for 64-bit. Graphics apps are a class of software that gets the "boost".

I switched to 64 bit when 7 rtm was released. i will never go back to 32bit.

The car's performance and stability will diminish with age. Enduring membership will boost your performance and enhance your stability.

You will need better euphemisms and analogies to run with the big dogs.

I know you can't upgrade for x86 to x64 and must do a clean install, but is there a way to transfer (easy way) all user settings?

Thanks for the tutorial, and yes I was aware of this, but it does not work if you go from x86 to x64 I thought? I know I tried going from x64 to x86 once with Vista and it told me that I couldn't use the transfer file.
