How to validate legit RTM Win7 Professional

Shortly after Windows 7 is available for purchase beginning October 22, you will be able to validate Windows 7 running on your PC to help you determine that it’s genuine.
At the bottom it stated that currently it only validates XP and Vista

As stated by Barman, all MSDN .. MSDN/AA versions of Windows 7 can be activated and pass WGA... unless Im missing something here...

Nope - different things. The RTM can be activated, as folks have stated. It cannot be validated yet.

The OP said he was getting a validation error, which is curently not possible.

I have a legit version of windows but when happens if it isn't and the validation fails.

I'm not encouraging piracy but asking a question.

Although Microsoft is quite rightly very strict with those people who knowingly crack and use Microsoft Software they are more forgiving to those who are innocent victims of this crime.

Anybody who buys or otherwise obtains a copy of Microsoft software (bundled with hardware), believing in good faith that it is genuine that subsequently proves to be fake, should contact the local Microsoft office for their market.

If they are prepared to inform Microsoft of the full details of their purchase including receipts etc - Microsoft are willing to provide replacement licences or even media at a reduced cost sometimes even for free.

Not a double post as I wish to separate this from the above.

Some of the infrastructure for validation must already be in place and working as the install of MSE on windows 7 checks for a Valid copy of windows before installation - and windows 7 is fully supported.

Of course this could just be an activation check but does give the impresion of being a full validation of the OS.

Hmmm I could possibly be miles off the mark here....but the OP states he Installed with the key but at no time says he Activated it online.....now if memory serves correct and you insert the key at installation and untick the Activate Automatically you get the nag screen after 3 days...

No-one has actually suggested he try activating it with his existing legitimate key.

Re-download the ISO image from MSDN/AA, burn at slowest possible speed and do a format/clean install... Then image your drive/partition so that you dont have to repeat the process...

You're joking, right? I don't see the logic in what you are suggesting, care to explain?

Be glad to... By redownloading and reburning the ISO image you ensure that you have not developed data corruption by transference. Once this has been eliminated, you make an image of your drive/partition for archival purposes... If you have access to MSDN/AA through your University, this should not be a problem...

Also adopt and implement a back-up policy as a part of your disaster recovery plan...

Tews is referring to known DVD burn issues when ISO-images are burned too fast. Search these forums or the net and you'll see how often installation and activation issues are solved by reburning ISO with slowest possible speed and verification on.

Creating a system image after successful installation and activation makes life simpler if something happens. You can just restore the image.

I'm running the RTM but haven't activated it yet. Last night I downloaded MSE and installed it. It validated my RTM version first. It even said my OS was legit. So by this, I would think that validation should work on a legal copy of Win 7 even now.

I went to microsoft.com/genuine and it validated my copy of Win7 RTM obtained from MSDN as genuine.

TEWS is dead correct....as can be seen by the pic below.
My Win 7 Ultimate is fully activated Technet build with all the latest updates etc...but it cannot be Validated....yet

I also downloaded my windows 7 from my university's MSDN page.
I put it on my mac as a virtual machine and tried to activate it.
I got the same message saying it can't be activated yet til the 22nd.
It can though. It is your key, get a new one.
I first thought my didn't work because I was running in on my Mac and Microsoft wouldn't let you do it with XP for some reason so I figured that's what it was. Then I remember I let my roommate have my key. He entered it before me and therefore I guess it was blacklisted or whatever it's called.

All you have to do is order another windows 7 off the msdn/aa webpage and don't download it, just take the new product key. That's what I did, I just entered the key and it works.
