I tried the rest, and now, IMHO, I've got the best ... MSE .. opinions may vary...

I'm with you on that one.
Avast worked well until I got issues with skins.
MSE was quick, ez to install and already blocked the fake scanner you have a virus ploy.

I used AVG in the past, but now I strictly use Cyberdefender. I downloaded their free scanner from their website and it found a bunch of junk that AVG had overlooked. I eventually ended up getting the full version which gets rid of all of the viruses and comes with 24/7 technical support. The tech team is great and will answer any question, not just those related to the Cyberdefender software. I would definitely recommend trying Cyberdefender.

Sorry to tell you this, but Cyberdefender is a FAKE antivirus. The scanner you downloaded gave you fake results - meaning that you never had a virus even though it said you did. This is done to sell their product.

Avast is way better than AVG in terms of detection, less false positives and low on resources. Besides, many Gurus here prefer Microsoft Security Essentials.

You are welcome mate. You made good choice. However, one big reason to uninstall Avast is its interface. The CD player look doesnt do for most of the ppl and then they end up uninstalling it. If you feel so, then you can go for Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir.

Thanks for the link. Too bad Avira's not on that. Anyhow, GData's been closing in on the traditional leaders in all recent tests, thanks to its dual A/V engines, so that's what I'm going to try next.

Well, some may look at my Security plan as "Conflicting" but I've no issues since my installation of Windows 7.

My 3 Security Programs (All Running Side-by-Side) are:

• Norton Internet Security 2010
• Microsoft Security Essentials
• PCTools Threatfire (Expands Current Databases)

I know Norton usually informs users of currently installed Security software, but it didn't seem to mind having Microsoft Security Essentials. In fact, when One doesn't find something, the other does.

And for those who don't know, ThreatFire is basically an "addon" for a users current Security Software that expands the "known threats". It has been highly acclaimed in PC World Magazine, and on their website.

I'm sticking with NOD32 because I know it works very well, it's unobtrusive, low impact and has one of the best detection rates of any of it's kind. I'm now trialling spyware doctor as my anti-malware. it replaces maleware bytes for now at least.

Well, in my tests Vipre has performed very well. No anti virus is 100%.

Vipre on my system takes less CPU and RAM than ESET, so I'm not sure how you are seeing it use more. Vipre is the lightest footprint anti virus on the market. I've tested just about everything out there.

While Vipre is not included yet in some of the tests that are performed out there (apparently it will be in the next round), I have seen it in the real world and through some other testing and it has performed very well.

I have been using Avast since Windows Home Server first came out (about 3 years ago this Christmas). I used to use Mcafee and Norton before that until I kicked it to the curb when Norton 2005 came out (worst product I have ever seen or used..complete garbage) but Avast was the first to support the Windows Home Server (3 year license for $51) which I was standing up and decided to test the free home version on my PC's.

Avast updates daily or more. I have never had a virus since installing Avast. The player interface IS rather cheesy but who cares as I don't spend much time looking at it except when I want to run scans and that ability is also in my right click drop down menu or I use the tray icon menu for just about everything else. Total running memory used is 51mb which isn't the smallest or the largest.

I don't really get this issue about how much memory our AV's use as most people today have at least 2gb ram and a large percentage have 4gb or more. When memory was limited to 512k this was an issue but today not so much, its just sort of like WEI...doesn't really mean much except to brag.

Frankly most of the AV's people have mentioned work just fine. The real problem is the user.

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.
NOD32 is not what it used to be. Avast beats him to the ground. But if you put Avast or NOD32 on a PC that using a horny teenager... well, you'll get a tons of viruses in a week or even less. Plus, in a network systems like cable or wireless internet, Avast and NOD32 are very vulnerable from network attacks and you need to use them in a combination with some other software and that loading your system much more. For a simple web browsing, reading e-mail, youtube, wikipedia, facebook... Avast and NOD32 with a windows firewall offers a great protection. Few scans and you are safe. For advanced security, you'll need to go a little bit further than that and get yourself something more. Like I said, I'm using Kaspersky and it never failed me. It does a little harder on a system than Avast or NOD32 but security has it's price. Some of you hates and some of you loves Norton. I don't like it too, but even a Norton is a rounded security suite and more advanced in a security than NOD32 or Avast. Yet, I don't say it's better
Someone mentioned Bitdefender... reinstalling 3 hour old windows installation due to a heavy virus infection, leaves a very bad impression to me. Sorry...
Also, McAfee was also mentioned. I tried it ones. It was totally confused for adjustments. It was run fully automatic and the things it was set up, was hard to change. I don't know... Maybe I was expected something else
I'm a computer serviceman and I've seen a lots of problems with popular antiviruses but for all those that needs stronger protection, get Kaspersky or Norton. And if you feel like playing games and you are accusing antivirus that gives you bad game performance, shut down internet, get all network connections off, shut down completely antivirus and then play your favorite game. And there are no perfect protection or perfect antivirus. Use antivirus that suits your needs. Every one of them comes with a trial period. Try them all and pick the antivirus that suits you the most

You do realize that even if Norton doesn't complain about MSE (which it likely isn't doing due to how new MSE is), having both will still cause a hefty performance penalty and cause you to miss both when they DO conflict.
