Altering Margins in Outlook email

I like to have shorter lines when typing an email. This seems problematic if I have not finished an email
and visit another site. When I return I see that the lines are incomplete, i.e.
may be
cut short like I have just displayed here. So I have to readjust them to form proper lines. Tedious!!

This doesn't seem to happen when I use colour font but I don't always want to use this.

Is there anyway to shorten the margin lines or do I just have to put up with this?

What I have now noticed is that, on looking back at an email I have sent, it often has this broken half line layout but when I place this email in reply mode, the email appears with full lines! It is puzzling since I don't know how it looks went sent out. Namely, when I start an email but may look at something else before returning to the email, the lines get broken up (only half lines appearing in places) which I correct. I assume I have to correct them, i.e. turn half lines into full lines else they would appear still broken half lines to the recipient of the email.

(Ironically enough it just happened here now to this post! I typed it with full lines, i.e. creating my own margin but then found the lines broken up, appearing only half way along the line so had to correct them. I guess the simplest thing would be to just let it automatically return to the start of the next line without interference. I will do that here now [in future] but in Outlook email the lines are too long.)

I use Outlook 2013 & when I select New Email to compose a new one it opens in half maximised size, within the full Outlook background. I can drag the sides in if I want to make it narrower. So I thought this might help you as you have asked about margin setting. This does not change the margin & of course more lines will be shown with the smaller image, but when it is maximised the number of lines reduces due to the extra width. Also it will not alter the email at all when it gets to the recipient, as they will get it exactly as they would have if you had written it in full page width.

You have mentioned what version of Outlook you are using, but I thought my experience with Outlook 2013 might be of use to you.

Thanks for your reply but it is the full page width that I dislike to begin with! I guess the lesson here is to go with the flow and accept the margin stipulations....goes against the grain of this rebel but it is becoming an irritant to rectify.
