As of
this writing, the usual page does have .305 there. I just got it.
The way I get Flash updates is like this.
1. Run the little Flash thingy that's buried somewhere in Control Panel (and I'm too lazy to go figure out where -- I long ago put a shortcut to it in my Start Menu).
2. Go to the last tab in that thing & click the Check Now button.
3. This launches Firefox on the page where it tells you what version you have and lists all the various version numbers for the various platforms.
4. Click the link for downloading and . . . guess what . . . download the little installer thingy.
Now notice my state of affairs. I have the little Flash thingy still open because I clicked the Check Now button. And I have Firefox open because Flash opened it. So after the download completes, I execute the thing off my hard drive. It runs for a bit, looking good, and then I get a nag screen saying, essentially, you bonehead, you left the Flash thingy open and I am Flash and I can't complete my install while that thing is open. No, I am not the bonehead. Adobe is the bonehead. Why can't their stupid installer close that thing? OK so I close it myself and click Finish in the installer.
Now I'm not just annoyed, I'm M-A-D.

Why? Because their &#(Q@#()%^ installer then packs it in saying the installation failed! What, you couldn't resume from where you were? No, it offers to let me (how magnanimous of them) START OVER FROM THE BEGINNING!!! You bleepity bleepity bleep MORONS!!!!!
OK. So I go through the whole rigamarole AGAIN. Good thing I've got a broadband connection. If I were still on my old 28.8K modem . . . This time (I'm so smart) I close their little Control Panel thingy. It goes through its thing . . . AGAIN . . . and then I get a different nag screen telling me I'm such a bonehead because my browser is open. I was already not Le Happy Camper. Now . . . Look, you flaming #*& #U(IU#%() #*&#@&$^@(# s, I have my browser open to get your stinkin' software off your stinkin' web site. Of course, my browser is open! Fortunately, I didn't have anything going that I couldn't afford to close. So I closed all my Firefox windows and clicked Finish in their installer app. This time, it DID resume from where it was and successfully completed installation . . . by launching Firefox again. Why the bleepity bleep did you have me close it only to turn right around and open it again?
Programmers these days are BRAIN DEAD!!!! I would have been fired if I had treated my customers that way with my software back in the day when I was doing that sort of thing. And look at all the wonderful, glowing press they're generating here because of the way they write their installer program. Their installer program. Fer crying out loud, can't you even get THAT right? Makes you question the software the installer installs.
:mad2: This is what I'd like to do to them: :banghead:
When I do download their installer, I get the Firefox nag screen about do I want to replace the file by that name that already exists on my hard drive. Seems to me that once upon a time their installer used to delete itself. I don't know when that stopped. But it makes me wonder if I really need to download a new one every time they come out with a new version, or would the one I got last time still . . . fail to work properly . . . but at least still manage to install the latest Flash anyway?
