Monitor losing signal after installing GPU drivers (NVIDIA)

Remove the second card look for any dust build up in your pci-e slot, then if there is none try your first card in that slot as the only card in (it can be in any pci-e slot and if it slows down it's negligible at desktop anyways) if it works with the first card in the second slot only then your card could be bad, if it does not work then your slot is going or is bad. If it works then try the second card in the first slot only to rule out card vs slot. Check your SLI bridge for damage as well (poke marks or scratches on the inside.

Hi rvcjew,

Thanks for that. I'll give that a go today and post back. If it is the board is there any reason as to why the one slot could die ?

Thanks in advance

Luck of the draw, to humidity, to bad qc to dust build up and frying it. It only takes some bad placed esd to kill that stuff. If it's under warranty that is a rma worthy thing. If it's not the gpu of course.

Ahh ok! No worries. Well it has been very humid here lately. Also I have been running with the side panel of the case off. Just to get a bit more airflow, however, it does seem pretty dust free to be honest. But I will try the card swap today and see how we go. It ran flawlessly yesterday with the "good card" in and set up in the other slot.

I appreciate all your help by the way.

Hey Rvcjew,

So just to clarify. There is 2 cards, and 2 pci-e slots. One card worked great yesterday in the first slot and the second card didn't like the second pci-e slot-

So now, i have what seems to be the good card, in the second/bad slot. And at this point in time it seems to be working fine. And leads me to believe that there is a bad card.

Should i try the other card in the good slot and see what happens ?

i have also looked at the SLI bridge and cant seem to notice anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks in advance

Yes, since if it does not work as the only card installed and in the first slot then it is for sure a hardware defect with the gpu.

Hey Rvcjew,

Just tested the other card again to make sure. And no windows boot. So as you said the second card is dodgy/faulty.

Unfortunatly everything is out of warranty now as the whole rig was built about 3 or 4 years ago. Might be time for a GPU upgrade down the track.

Just wanted to say thank you for all your help, it is highly appreciated:thumbsup:

Thanks again

By other card you mean your second card and it is not working in your first pci-e slot? What model card is it?

They have a 3 year warranty so its worth a look but beyond that you could also try baking it like I suggested to Moskis but that only works if certain things are wrong with it. Also make sure you blow air through it if you think it might be a heat issue.
