BSOD forced me to reinstall / now I'm getting major update errors

Anyone willing to confirm that yes the test takes 8+ hours? And that an 8 hour stress test is safe and/or a good idea?

12 hours is not an unusual time - and any reasonably well-built machine should be able to run without any risk for that period of time. It's not a stress-test as such anyhow, simply a progressions of mathematical transforms that attempt to test all possible modes of failure.

Gotcha. I re-read your post and felt confident that the time table was common... So I started the test this morning before heading to work. I'll post my results at 4 when I get home.

Also, my co-worker suggested testing the ssd (boot drive) so I'm planning on running hddscan (freeware scanning software) after the RAM test. Assuming the RAM test passes.

Thanks again for all your help.

8 passes. 15 hours. :-/ Pass.

BUT a smart report on the Corsair SSD shows "num 204, 'Bad Block Full Flag"... I'll post the report in a sec.

Anyone know what I can do? Besides buy a new ssd?

Hopefully the Corsair utility will be able to tell you what to do, if it does show the same problem (it's probably still under warranty?).

Let's wait and see what that has to say before we get too bogged down in attempting to fix the unfixable ;)

Also ran Trim, no errors. Re-checked SMART, again status OK.

Sooooo... The RAM is OK. The SSD is OK. The system has stayed stable with no BSOD since a wipe and re-install of Win7. I will run Prime95 and test the CPU ... BuuuuuTTT , I'm STILL having that update issue. I will reRun SURT and upload in this thread. But it does seem like I've tested just about everything and found no errors.

I can't see any problems in there - which means that I may be looking in the wrong place or for the wrong thing :(

We're getting close to the point where a repair install is going to be my recommendation, as I really don't have much of a clue what's going on.
I'll try and ponder on it during the day.

I can't see any problems in there - which means that I may be looking in the wrong place or for the wrong thing :(

We're getting close to the point where a repair install is going to be my recommendation, as I really don't have much of a clue what's going on.
I'll try and ponder on it during the day.

I JUST did a repair install. :( I think I'm throwing in the towel here. I'm going to switch over to 10 when I get home and play around with that until I can afford a copy of 8 at the end of the month. 7 seems to be too much of a head ache for me. Thanks for trying though. I do appreciate it.
