Solved Why on booting from HDD first, the cursor blinks for sometime ?

Hi,
When i boot from hdd as first priority, my screen blinks with cursor for some time before, yellow lights lit up and do the normal windows boot. I am using windows 7. This makes me think, sometime, that computer is not powered enough . But it is normally booting.

Before BIOS screen, or before win7 animation logo? How long does the blinking text cursor appear? In top left corener of screen?

When i power on, before it goes to the win logo. Yes, cursor at the left top. about 25 to 35 seconds. My yellow lights on only at the end of this blinking. This blink stops, and then window loads normally. Is it normal. Because, i doubted sometimes that computer is not booting and trying to press the power switch again and again.

Is it before or during the actual start of windows 7? Try this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html you see that "advanced boot options" menu fast, or also a 25 seconds delay before showing that menu?

Yes, it is just blinking - in the top left of monitor. The computer boots up normally. I have tried start up repair and it found no problems . I also tested windows memory diagnostic. nothing found.
is it normal? My son also presses the power on button unnecessarily doubting that computer fails to boot, where as it is not.
Is there any delay time before booting to windows. is that is nearly 30 seconds normal.

yellow light means disk access... so there's no disk access during the wait?

Yes. If you mean yellow light means disk access, then the cursor blinks sometime before the yellow light goes on. In normal boot , and not in advanced boot by f8

so you power on machine, then you press F8 a couple of times. The advanced boot menu appears very soon. You select "normal boot" and press enter. Now you see the blinking cursor for 25 seconds?

So AFTER the F8 advanced boot menu?

F8 is just a key to force the bootmanager to show the boot menu. You can select "safe mode", "repair computer" and so on. But also "boot normally" there.

F8 menu is displayed without the 25 seconds delay?
Delay problem also takes place on a reboot?

I tried before answering. When i select normal boot from the F8 menu, then it immediately loads the win logo and normal boot. But sometimes, i could not see the green light also some times. It auto switch off . I have to press the power on again. Once it boots, if i press f8 and choose normal mode, then window boots without the minus cursor blinking at top left.
But when i boot normally, i come across this behaviour

f8->normal mode: it's ther same as not pressing F8 at all!
so vursor wait is BEFORE the boot menu. Same problem when doing reboot?

No not normal, but why are you blaming win7? It occurs BEFORE displaying the boot menu, so has nothing to do with win7.

Power on machine, then press the key to enter BIOS (which key it is, will be displayed for a short time). Then just wait a minute. Now press the key to exit those settings (most likely ESC button). Same problem?

Do you have a bootable CD or DVD? If so... try to boot from it... same problem?

Hi, Sir,
I am not blaming win 7. I have noticed the cursor before booting. Sometime, the on power on the power switch, green light auto off itself. I surfed thro net for this behaviour. It may be possible that enough power is not provided for booting, or ram defective or mother board is over heated.
If it is normal to boot after one minute, then it is ok , sir.
I never blame win 7. I also read that timeout at boot menu is set to 30 seconds and this may be the reason for the cursor. Thank you, for your racer quick pertinent answers. I will check those things also.

Some Possible Causes

It could possibly be caused by:

• Failing HDD
• Corrupted/wrong motherboard storage driver
• Lose power connections on your HDD or any component (e.g. other HDD, CD/DVD, etc.)
• Lose data connections on your HDD or any component (e.g. other HDD, CD/DVD, etc.)

How this have anything to do with cd dvd connection? please explian.
I am having the problem of over heating in cpu temp.

It is new hard drive.

You could just be unlucky and your new drive is twitchy.

I bought an external HDD that was broken before I even opened the box (it could not be formatted).

How this have anything to do with cd dvd connection? please explian.

A couple of years ago I noticed a random startup delay on my system.
I eventually noticed that whenever a delay occurred one of my DVD drives wasn't working.

I determined that the cause was a dodgy power connection to the drive.
When I used a different power connection the issue stopped. :shock:

My hypothesis is that the BIOS was having issues detecting the drive and that was causing the delays.

Based on that experience, I suspect that dodgy power connections to any component in your PC could possibly cause startup delays.
