Im looking for a 7 home premium x64 iso because the serial checker on msfts site is referring me to the manufacturer, who of course doesnt have the isos available for download.

Sadly it would be illegal and against for rules for somebody to post a link to a non-official source of the ISO in the thread :(

I just read some more of that tutorial and you pointing me in that direction gave me EXACTLY what i needed!!! Thanks again!! The ei.cfg removal will do exactly what i need as i have other versions than the one i need. This is perfect!

Glad to hear it. I was worried that the tutorial would become less useful when MS removed the ISO downloads, so I have fought hard to get them reinstated and am still waiting for a decision.

But meanwhile the tutorial's readership has jumped in a little over a month from 1.2 to 1.3 million so I guess it is still useful and may be even more so now! :)

Agree!! Im against the removal of the iso's personally. Im very glad that ive had to help a friend or 470 in the past which led me to obtaining several different versions of 7. I never worried about keeping a spare iso around of home premium because i always relied upon digitalriver for a clean source. This new little tidbit of knowledge will come in quite handy indeed!!! Im just gonna use a win 7 ult x64, snip that file out of it, and go from there. Very useful!! tyvm!

when did they take the iso server down btw?

They have taken them down before but we were always able to get them put back. Now they have replaced it with Microsoft Software Recovery which supposedly works with retail Product Keys though no one seems to be able to get it to work. So we are trying to get them to accept OEM Product Keys, too.

thats the problem im running into with that tool, its a samsung lappy and that stinking msft tool is being a tool. I hope they get it working properly so those of us with legit needs can get them met

So, removing the file didnt work. It still installed as win 7 enterprise. I used enterprise because its what i had mounted to a thumb drive. Is that the issue?

Yes, Enterprise has no other editions and isn't even considered a normal retail Win7 installation. I don't know why you told me you have Ultimate to unlock, since I could have told you this earlier to save time.

You'll need to locate a Win7 retail installer with any normal version to unlock.

Greg, how about updating your tutorial to mention not to use Enterprise since it will not work as there are no other versions included????

Rich it rarely comes up for consumers because it's strictly a business application. When it does its because consumers are misdirected to it due to the trial version which was never intended for them anyway. After early missteps I have learned to not even bring it up.

I don't believe their are many enterprises that have bought a legal Windows 7 Enterprise are going to be using Gregs tutorials.
They will be using their I.T. department or paid consultants to do their installs and activations.

I have many isos and a serial to match them. I was tinkering with enterprise to boot in vmware last with that usb stick because i just hadnt played with that distro at home as an admin yet. Ill mount ultimate and get cracking

However, some folks might bave aquired the enterprise iso erroneously to solve this same problem. I agree that its very likely rare and therefore unnecessary to put in thr tutorial, but modifying the wording a tad might help. Something like "if you have a home preium iso, itll also allow you to install ultimate with the file removed, however do not use the enterprise iso as it isnt compatible with any other distribution"

On scond thought Perhaps I need to insert in tutorial something like: "Note: Enterprise version does not apply here and is not a consumer application?"

Thatll work methinks. :) and in all sincerity, im not trying to be deliverately obtuse, just am ignorant to much of this stuff. Seriously not teying to kick a hornets nest or anger any trolls. But this has been educational for me, for which im appreciative :)

I have a Retail version of Home Premium and Ultimate that are unused. If I wanted to do a clean install on one of my notebooks that have an OEM version of Home Premium on it, would I be able to use the Retail Home Premium disk and the OEM key to do the clean install or will I need to scarf up an OEM disk or ISO?
